Let's say there's a really cool-looking piece of chest armor that I want to wear (for me, it would be Deathsinger's Mantle because I really like the high collar). The stats and upgrades aren't what I wanted (not true, but this is only an example). However, I have Viper Spine VI, and it has far better defense and stats (not true, only an example) than Deathsinger's Mantle, but it looks ugly. I want to be able to merge the stats from Viper Spine VI with the appearance of Deathsinger's Mantle. (Both will no longer be separate armor pieces) The only thing is that the stats/outfit for armor pieces can only be merged with armor pieces of the same type and rarity. So, basically, the stats or appearance of an exotic helmet can only be merged with the stats or appearance of another exotic helmet. Example: Deathsinger's Mantle (Outfit) + Viper Spine VI (Stats) = Viper Spine VI (THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE, I WOULD NEVER DO THIS) The name of the newly formed armor piece should most likely have the name of the armor piece whose stats were merged with the outfit/armor. Because Viper Spine VI's stats were being merged, the name of the newly formed armor piece is Viper Spine VI. Basically, the armor stats on Deathsinger's Mantle were replaced by the stats on Viper Spine VI, but the newly formed armor piece has the appearance of Deathsinger's Mantle. The newly merged armor piece can still be ascended (depending on the rarity), and the defense, upgrades, and upgrade progression will remain the same as the ones on the previous armor piece that replaced the stats on Deathsinger's Mantle.
