Why not let users send each other packages through the postmaster? To stave off rampant trading, you can charge a Strange Coin/Motes of Light fee to retrieve a package; say 23 coins or motes of Light.

How about same fee on both sides?

1. Post office opens for player trading the same time as Xur is there.
2. Player hands in item (let's say exotic for arguments sake) for friend to receive at the post master.
3. Once friend is notified he/she can collect the exotic for the same price xur would sell it for. 23 coins + (a trade fee)of maybe 25 Motes of light or 150 vanguard/crucible marks? Depending on what you are selling.
4. Once payment is done. Player gets notified and collects coins + light/marks off postmaster.
5. If the friend fails to collect from the post master before xur leaves then the player is notified to collect their goods which were for trade.
Trading conditions as follows:
1. Both players must be at max light level ie 31 or 32.
2. Both players must have played (and finished) at least 5 nightfall strikes or raids together. (This is to stop random trading & build the social thing Bungie keeps talking about!)
3. Trades can only be conducted by both trading players once (each way) with only one of their toons per week. So no trading 3 times if you have 3 characters.

Honestly, this is one of the best ideas I have ever read. I hope they take this in to consideration.

You should be able to drop items as engrams and other people in your party can collect them. You can have a private party Nobody in the tower can collect the engrams unless they're in your party

I honestly think this is a really cool idea for people who seem to get 4 or 5 of the same exotic and for their clanmates who can't seem to get that exotic that there friend has 4 or 5 of. I would say yes to this! -
No trading ever

Buying Gjallarhorn $20. You're suggesting a completely open trading system with an arbitrary (and meaningless) cost. It would lead to real world trading and lack of gameplay objectives. When a game relies on players grinding a pool of limited content, the only thing keeping the process going are the rewards. Nothing about this idea works.

No in game trading

This is similar to what they use (or used last time I played years ago) in WoW. You could send packages that included gear, money and other items to other players. I don't think there was a fee involved though. I know that some think that trading could break "balance" of the game and I tend to agree... so perhaps instead of the postmaster and a fee we should have a consignment shop where users could "sell" their extra items for glimmer and let the market decide the price. I could see a Horn going for the max of 25,000 glimmer easy.... i dunno.

Bungie said no to trading because that would be a good decision. Here at Bungie we only want dumb/bad decisions.
