Should we do away with PvP in Destiny?

This is a bit long winded so prepare yourself. First I have to qualify what I'm about to say by clarifying that I do enjoy PvP. I don't like it quite as much as PvE, but I do have a lot of fun with it, even though I'm terrible. This is not a post to tear down the idea of PvP gaming, or say that PvE gaming is superior. This isn't even to say that I think the game would be more fun without it. But the main idea I intend to posit is that PvP simply doesn't make sense in the context of this game, and it's caused problems within the community, and it has compromised the overall gaming experience that Bungie intended for. Please hear me out, and understand that I'm not "butt hurt" or whining about losing. This is simply something I realized yesterday while reading the forums at work, and I'd like to put my ideas out there and get some good, mature discussion going. Destiny takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. Earth is in serious danger of being lost to the darkness, and it's up to the Guardians to save the world. I think Bungie has done a marvelous job of creating the PvE environment. The class/sub-class system is awesome! They're built to be able to support each other so well. There's support classes like the Defender and Sunsinger, heavy hitter classes like Striker and Voidwalker, and then the hunter classes provide all sorts of tactical and stealth options, that are great for flanking and revives, not to mention that the gunslinger is the best class to use for sharpshooting. Enough of this nonsense of Hunter being useless in PvE. That's incredibly close minded. I main a Titan, but I think hunters are one of the most useful guys to have on your fireteam. If I die in dangerous zone from getting overwhelmed, I love knowing that the bladedancers can creep over invisible and save my ass. Plus, gunslingers have one of the few supers that is actually best used to take down a boss' health. I love the different abilities of the classes and how they can compliment each other when used tactically. If you understand how to best utilize your perks, and choose the right weapons and armor for any given situation using for each class, you can put together a truly unstoppable fireteam. Yet no one seems to appreciate this. We have the whole -blank-master race crap, and people in the community actually have arguments and get into fights over which class is better! People talk shit about how hunters suck in PvE, and when anyone uses an awesome and actually chooses the best load out for a situation, they get put down! That's unreal to me. If someone uses blink to dodge fire and appear in unpredictable areas, they get called a scrub. When people use self-res, they get called out for using a "crutch". This is bullshit. Have we forgotten that we're all on the same team? We should be in awe of other class abilities. We should get excited when our fellow guardians use every perk and weapon/armor load out to their advantage, because it all helps us win! In PvE, no one has a problem with self-res, because everyone loves it when the warlock saves everyone's asses on the nightfall. Instead, it seems like teamwork and "cooperation" (which is the entire pointof this game) are the furthest thing from anyone's mind. This I blame on PvP. Why would you have a such a strongly competitive environment in setting where you should be focused on teamwork? Most of the community isn't mature enough to handle friendly competition. It gets way too personal. This is when people start bitching and moaning, calling for nerfs and/or buffs, calling people "scrubs" for using good sense and selecting an awesome load out etc. For the record, nothing needs to be nerfed!! I'm terrible at PvP and I don't have issues with getting killed by people with thorn or the last word. I use the MIDA and usually outgun people with hand cannons, since the MIDA staggers and doesn't allow them to aim. That's how you counter hand cannons. You just need to get better, or create a smarter load out. When you go to play strikes, how often do you actually cooperate? Probably never. No one talks (I actually blame Bungie for releasing the game without team chat), no one tries to use any sort of tactics, and no one thinks about the best way to tackle each encounter. Even strikes are a competition. I guarantee all you do is try to get more kills than everyone else. I'll admit it, that's what I do.... But I wish it weren't that way! Can you imagine how fun it would be, and how much more efficiently we would get through PvE content if we actually used co-op tactics? This is what I do when I play with my friends, and it is by far the most fun gaming experience I've ever had. I think that the overly competitive environment created by PvP, combined with the immaturity of a large portion of the community just doesn't make sense in the story line that this game was made for. Yes, I'm fully aware that Bungie won't do away with PvP, and I don't know if I even think they should. All I know is the current situation doesn't allow for the game to be enjoyed the way it should be, and it's a shame. The least we could do is start acting as a unit instead of segregated classes. What do you think? Agree, disagree?

 • Ehhhh... Sorry dude, I wouldn't have bought this game if it hadn't of come with pvp. I need pvp in my shooters and while some of the pve stuff is great in this game (doing a raid for the first time blind), none of it can compare to the thrills of pvp for me. I like competition. I get enjoyment from trying to be the best every match. The maturity or lack thereof in the destiny community is only a problem if you make it one. In any game with this many players there's always going to be a stupid, very vocal percentage, especially here on the forums. Don't let it get to you. Do your magical, "we are the guardians here to save the day together!" stuff with your friends and enjoy it because trying to get that kind of mentality out of a playerbase this large is impossible
