    • Luckily during the United States Civil War, other countries were not rich enough to swing the battles to the Confederates. This would have radically altered the outcome of what the US has become today. As it stands, the US has put their nose into everybody elses business since that time and affected the global political climate of almost all the great and lesser nations of the world. Remember that one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

      • The wealthier nations have a responsibily to their people first and fore most. These nations have a lot of domestics issues they need to work through, such as staggering debt, racial tensions, learning to work together to solve political differences. The list goes on and on. I for one got upset when the US tried to spread democracy in the Middle East, not because I don't like democracy. I love democracy, but our own democratic republic has only existed for some 200 years, we have fought a civil war, been through numerous social movements and we still do not have our selves figured out.

      • A wealthy and powerful nation should be heavily taxing the rich, enforcing environmental regulations and legalizing things like gay marriage, marijuana and abortion.

        • No, they need to take care of themselves, or they're not gonna grow up and be super powers themselves.

        • Morals and values are different in other countries. To take direct action is to make a statement that your specific values are right and that you are going to impose them on others by force. It also undermines the authority of the acting government of those nations and will usually raise tensions between countries. Alot of these problems are very serious but many of them need to be dealt with internally by pressuring foreing govs by political means to get them to adress the issues as opposed to through military action.

Typical American mentality. "Don't worry, we will invade your country and give you 'freedom'!" Edit: Didn't know Americans got so butthurt when someone criticizes their country. Good to know they love the freedom of speech so much. Keep the tears coming.

          • I disagree. I don't believe that we have any responsibility to protect smaller, lesser developed nations from terrorists, especially not when it means introducing a democratic government in their nation. I believe that democracy must come organically from the ground up, not from foreign intervention or rushed means. And unbridled turmoil is often a part of that process. I also believe that despots like Saddam Hussein, Assad, and other autocratic leaders are in fact necessary for many of these nations since they are not yet ready for democracy. They need a powerful dictator to keep things in line. Point in case: Iraq. ISIS never would have came into being were it not for the Western-backed overthrow of Saddam Hussein who maintained order. In fact, many people actually loved him and I know many Middle Eastern minorities like Christians and Shias who regard him as a hero and have portraits of him in their homes. Same goes for Assad. I believe that our number 1 responsibility is environmentalism and scientific development since we are the only nations with the economic means and abilities to do such and therefore set the example for the rest of the world to follow. We need to be the first ones to establish a colony in outer space, we need to preserve our forests and discover new eco-friendly approaches to energy and other conservation techniques.

                    • Its not the terrorist the problem. The problem is that the minority of the entire global population is self centered. Its the "if it doesent hurt or affect me why should I care" type of thinking that make it easier for a corporation or today world corporation and private society to have such a easy grip on our life. Just like now everyone only talk and joke around about isis and ignore the fact that themselves make 200 million $ a yhear while alquaeda make 50 million. If isis isn't stoped and that the world just sit and watch until isis comme knocking on there door with a AK-47. Global mindset.

To prevent dictators with radical views from rising to power. To establish a global community with the promise of global prosperity. I will add more to this, I need time to think about it. Edit: okay, having some time to think about it and having done a little research on NATO, I think I have a better idea of what I'm talking about. Ideally, the wealthy countries should help poor countries by first establishing a government for the people, by the people so they can elect their first leader; then support trade that fosters economic growth. Then send senior officers to assist in training a military to defend itself from foreign, as well as domestic threats. Assist in stabilizing the country (with a NATO Developing Countries Treaty or something like that) and create public school systems to educate its citizens.

                      • We have a responsibility to assist developing nations politically, but that doesn't mean through military action.

To -blam!-ing eviscerate every barbaric savage on the planet. If we had it my way there wouldn't be one member of ISIS left on the face of earth. We would hunt down every last jihadist, rapist, extremist, etc

                      • I understand that and thinks its admirable, but i personally would prefer the survival of the fittest approach. The more powerful countries on this Earth all started from the bottom too.

there's a fine line between helping, and meddling in affairs that aren't yours. sometimes it's best to turn a blind eye in order to prevent a bigger disaster.
