I need some math help
So with all the different types of gear that will get us to max level, I want to get a good idea of the amount of different gear combinations there will be.
I counted 16 possible gear sets.
VOG
Crotas end
Vanguard ×2
Crucible ×2
Fwc ×2
DO ×2
NM ×2
Queens wrath
Prison of elders
Trials of Osiris
Iron banner
That's 64 pieces of armor.
Not counting exotics, marks/bonds/cloaks, or shaders, there are four slots for different gear. This is also not including gear from the original game or vendor gear from TDB.
So help me out, how many different combinations will there be?
The general consensus is that everybody will be able to look different. With over 65000 combinations not including exotics, shaders, and class items. With all of that, there will be millions of different combinations. Now everyone can be special little snowflakes.

2 RepliesIts 16^4 or 65536 unique combos. Starting from helmet chest glove that's 16 combos for boots alone. Multiplied by 16 different gloves, again by 16 chests, Finally by 16 helmets. Making 16^4. Its much more than that though. There is 2 vanilla vendor sets and 2 tdb vendor sets as well. Meaning it's really 36^4 or 1679616 sets. Not including exotics XD such math.

7 RepliesAnswer 16^4 Anyone feel like doing baby math without CALCULATORS then here is a easy problem even a 5th grader can solve this. √256 + 98^5(√144*7)- √127^3=? Remember no calculators allowed!

To factor in the Exotics, multiply your non-exotic result by 12, because for every possible non-exotic armor set, you could replace any one piece with any one Exotic, and each class has nine available exotics, currently. Obviously this assumes that each class will get 3 new exotics, as happened in TDB.

Well, you gotta consider that there's armor pieces that won't be used because they are either boring or look like doodoo. Then there's a couple million players in Destiny, so it's pretty likely that there will be hundreds or thousands of people with the exact same armor combination as you.

There's more than that, at HoW we'll be on our third set of crucible and vanguard vender gear. So add another 4 sets per class.

The pre-TDB sets will be available to ascend, as well as current TDB and HoW vendor sets. 144 total vanguard and crucible pieces Faction gear didn't change from launch to TDB, but will be removing current faction and replacing with one set per class, meaning; 82 total faction pieces. VoG and CE: 24 total raid pieces. Iron Banner: 12 pieces Trials of Osiris supposedly offers two aesthetically unique sets of armor per class (destinydb): 24 pieces Prison of Elders datamine info (grain of salt) shows only one set per class: 12 pieces Queen's Wrath hasn't been shown to offer any armor yet Sum total of 298 pieces of legendary armor capable of Ascension. Meaning for each class there are about 99 armor pieces (barring my human error) that could get you to max level Get the math people to do these permutations I've done enough

Simple solution: you have [i]more[/i] options than before. Edit: in before "didn't answer op," you can guess which one is right, I just wanted to mark this for a technical writing course I have tomorrow. Great example of accountibiliy on social media sources found online.

It couldn't be 16^4, as that would give a number that includes armour being in the wrong slot? No matter what, the answer will be in the thousands. Aka. Don't expect to find 2 guardians looking the same at level 34
