VoG Lost chest! Riddle translation.
Let's break down the riddle first. "You have found a pedestal." People have come to think that the middle platform can be considered a pedestal but I in fact believe that the whole room is the pedestal. "The chest was there at some point." Obviously the key word is WAS, because we cannot see it. "It lies between future and past..." I don't know but the way that's put together automatically means to me that past and future are physical objects and do does everybody because they find them to be the two gates. Maybe I am wrong but I have never heard them referred as past and future but them again I haven't really read the Vault's grimoire. But my point is that there are two different planets. And if the gates are future and past then we kinda mixed them up. The left would be future and the right would be past. And then it would make sense because the riddle states "future and past" and most of us happen to read things from left to right which places the gates correctly in the riddle. "...but not in the present." Now this is where I think we got it backwards. If the gates are physical then the last line must definitely be literal. Meaning that it isn't in the present where we stand after but someWHEN else entirely. That's backed up by the next line. "Time is broken, but it can be fixed..." This tells us that the chest is lost in time. "...for people have mended it before and left without questioning, what changed." Now we all know that in the VoG time is broken due to Atheon being time's conflux itself. Meaning he is time in itself. And most of us have killed Atheon and left without checking out the surrounding area. Which could be the last part of the riddle meaning directly that the chest is definitely around after the fight. Somewhere or somewhen.
Well I apologize if I confused you guys but I just wanted to break it down a little bit.

Edit 2: A poster commented stating that both portals are Venus. One is past and the other future. The left portal which we consider to be Mars is actually the future. A ruined place. And the right Venus. A habitable past. And then it fits the riddle perfectly!

Bungie says the there are still secrets to the vault. I'm assuming at this point that those secrets will be unlocked in future dlc, which would make the vault relevant again. Considering the whole playing with time theme destiny has going on. (Like the changing background in opening cinematic)

8 RepliesIf that's the case then it might be inside venus or mars after the battle. Or all 3. Split the fireteam into 3 pairs. One pair in the present where we fought Atheon and the other 2 pairs in the past and future on Mars and Venus. That might trigger something. Never tried it but I plan to mess around with it tonight.

Has anyone tried going into the opposite portal of which your team was teleported to during atheon? ie. Team gets teleported to past, and someone opens up future and goes in.

7 RepliesUgh, the portals are not Mars & Venus....[i]the entire raid takes place on [b]Venus[/b][/i]. One portal is the [u]past[/u] the other is the [u]future[/u]. If you examine the past and future, you would see they are the same, as is the present. In fact, when you travel through time, you appear in the same spot Atheon is located in the present. #theMoreYouKnow

This is really interesting. What i immediately thought is that after you kill arthroscopic you have to go into Venus or Mars (maybe both?) and on the center platform where you go to shoot atheon during times vengeance, since they're all the same place.

I always thought Venus was future and mars was past before. I could be wrong though

2 Repliesif I'm correct you can find plants growing in the present and no dead plants, so the future portal is actually venus.

2 RepliesAt the jumping part after the gorgon maze there are two caves at the left side very far down.. at the beginnig top right is an invisible wall. The lost portal in the middle is reachable, but if you can activate it, i dont know how. Maybe theres another way from the gatekeeper side after you started fighting him or defeat him. Gatekeeper side far down i found nothing except "guardian down" and far up anything either. So maybe IF theres a hidden chest nobody found before, they spawn in that cave spots or on the other side of the portal... maybe the portal links to another part of the VoG .. new content. Like the gorgon grimoire card says "the VoG isnt complete explored yet" (something like this) maybe the chest doesnt exist and its a rumor from some bungie trolls. Maybe it is somewhere else (like the hidden path to the confluxes at the beginnig) maybe an special to-do list you have to complete to let it spawn like the templar bonus chest.. we all dont know. I hope they will extend the VoG with more bosses in it. Best raid so far.. (Sry for bad grammar - maybe - my mother tongue isnt english)^^

It's not just future and past, they are the same room. Both portals lead to the vault of glass in the future or past. When you enter it, you can look around and see they are both the same layout as the vault. You always spawn in at the spot that aetheon spawns, at the top. The red world has the other portal there, just broken.

3 RepliesMaybe Mars is the past you know a planet void of life before it becomes habitable much like Venus is portrayed in the game with lush vegetation. If the planets represent past and future that's the way I see it.

3 Repliesthe line "it lies between future and past" suggests to me it is on the physical platform you shoot Atheon from, literally between the 2 portals (future and past).....its just a question of how you open it, we know there are 5 sync plates (3 outside and 2 inside) has anyone had all 5 open at once (would require 3 manning VOG with 3 still outside)

Almost every combination would have been done by now.People have spent a lot of time trying to find more chests,nothing has been found,and if it was,were those 2 shards worth it?

1 ReplyYa know I've never thought of the "mars" portal as future, but you may be right. They are clearly not mars and Venus, they are past and future. Inside the portals are mirror images of the room you are fighting Atheon in. There is another chest. I know this is true. What triggers it, where it's located, these questions will eventually be answered

4 RepliesAfter Gatekeeper there are two relics to retrieve. After they are retrieved there are two portals to defend. While they are being defended the door to the chamber remains open. As soon as the Atheon checkpoint is reached, the door closes. Why does it close? Perhaps this is the key to the final mystery of the VoG...
