Issue with Archon Priest Strike door breach objective

While attempting this week's Nightfall strike, I found myself unable to progress past the section where you fight off three waves of Vex by the locked door. After killing the first wave of Vex, the objective will reset and prompt me to deploy my ghost again. As a result, I have been unable to complete the strike.

  • While many people have stated this, it's Bungie's little "fix". You can still do it with ease. Just need to tweak your tactics a little bit. I sit up there and snipe all the majors and leave one or two goblins. Jump down to where the bridge is, kill them, and the next wave kicks in. Climb back up on your perch, rinse and repeat for all 3 waves. Method works like a charm still.

  • We encountered this problem several times today. We can confirm that it does NOT appear to be related to distance from the enemies. We had it happen when we had guardians who were on the lowest bridge, well within range to be killed by the last enemies--the last enemy would die and then no other enemies would come out. We at first thought it might be related to being out of range (ie, safely sniping from the ketch or from the cliffs), but it seems that's not the case. The giveaway seemed to be that the animation of Ghost opening the door would just vanish, and then you were stuck. Sometimes you'd be stuck and the next wave wouldn't come out, and sometimes the phase would reset entirely. We were unable to determine a consistent cause. One of our players thought it was connected with him specifically, because every time he was the one who triggered the door, it would happen on that attempt. After three returns to orbit, we finally managed a runthrough where it didn't happen, and went on to complete it. Please fix this.

    • All you have to do to workaround it is leave one enemy alive (such as Goblin due to slow move speed and low health and damage), get closer to it (crossing the bridge has worked for me as "close enough") and kill it. You can also use this as an opportunity to scoop up ammo and engrams. As long as this is done on each wave the quest should continue as expected.

    • I ran this strike 6 times last night and didn't have any problem at all. How far back were you sniping from?

    • I'm hearing that this is a "fix" by Bungie to keep us from sniping on the ledges or the ketch and that you have to stay closer to the ghost to trigger the next wave. If true, this is stupid for a number of reasons. Most notably: you gave us tons of sniper perches. OF COURSE we're going to use them. If you feel that your level design makes the mission to easy, then you need to fix it in a way that won't make players think the game is glitching. This could be accomplished by having the ghost take damage, causing a mission failure if he dies. It A turn back zone is another option. You could also make the enemies smart enough to shoot back at the perches or even to come after guardians up there. There will be players now who avoid this mission because they think it's broken, and that's a worse problem than the perches making it too easy.

        I'm just guessing here, but i think it is caused by moving to spots where the enemies can't shoot you, such as the fallen ship and at the top of the cliff where you enter the area, i managed to get past it by leaving only one goblin or harpy alive each wave and moving to the door before killing them then running back to where they can't shoot me EDIT: the FULL fireteam MUST be within the area where the enemies can shoot you before killing the last enemy in each wave to make sure i stand just in front of the door

      • Yeah you're right...This Happened to my fireteam,,,But then I noticed that one of us was outside the map Sniping while the others got killed by Hobzz(fail)...so we decided to "wipe" and start again...and this time we stayed inside the map...and it worked..so I guess it was fixed..

      • Snipe from a distance. Keep one enemy alive. Run down close, kill him, go back, repeat. You have to be down where the enemies spawn when the last guy of each wave dies.

      • Nope. Not broken just fixed. You cant beat it by sniping from where they csnt reach you

          • Happened to me as well, I found I had to go closer to the door to fight rather than the usual sniping point and it progressed every time after that, was thinking they patched the sniping point or something lol

          • Yeahh mine reset twice and the third time I was in group and the door didnt even open after all the mobs were dead, so had to go to orbit and redo

            • You know I've never actually used that tactic. I just stay up on the highest peak of the hill when you first come out of the cave. The enemies can't even see you and never shoot at you.

            • Hahaha I was stuck at this last week forever in the archon in lvl 26 vangaurd. Explains a lot. I had 3 sets of teammates show up an leave vause it kept glitchin. My bad oops

            • Already figured out a new strategy for this "glitch". Just have one guy, preferably a titan with defender and bubble stays in cover and the other 2 snipe like always. and the guy just has to be close enough to agro.

            • I found earlier that this is not just limited to the Nightfall. Hours before the reset I was with a group doing some Vanguard Roc strikes and this "glitch" came to our attention. Once I found out that this was our Weekly Nightfall I informed my regular Nightfall fireteam of the issue I had hours before. We had no issues with our first run of characters. The second round, our next characters we reset and it took six tries to finally complete the run. Our final run, third character, no issue. We sat in our usual sniper positions in all three rounds. It's all good and I don't need to worry about it till next weekly reset! Have Fun!!
