How much of it is about ego?

Before you read on, understand I am not coming after, making fun of or disrespecting anyone in any way. I simply want to hear your opinion on this. A friend that I play Destiny with occasionally and I were playing last night and he asked, "I thought you had beat Crota on hard?" I replied, "I have a few times and tried many more." Insert LONG pause, then he continued, "Then why are you not sporting Gloo Hoo?" I replied, "At least with how I have my characters set up I think that shader looks stupid on them." Without hesitation he replied, "So what man! It shows other players what you have done." Now personally not in regards to the shaders but I will admit that occasionally I like to sport a particular weapon that I am proud of while in the Tower. However, most of the time I really don't think about it, which by extension means I really don't care what other players think of my gear is that a bad thing? Does that mean I don't really care about the game? Or does that mean I am secure in my sexuality/manhood/gamer rep? lol Seriously, I would be curious how many of you actually put any thought into what gear you will sport, solely for the purpose of getting the recognition of other players?

  • I put a lot of thought into my gear. I have 3 characters each with a great raid set and I'm working on PvP armor sets for them now. Stats, abilities, how shaders effect the look are all important to me. The opinions of others are not.
