The Sights and Sounds of Destiny

I think the considerable work that was put into the landscapes and the sound field should get more credit. I enjoy taking a PvE walk in any location just to explore (and hunt for those damn golden chests). My favorite bounty is to clear the area of enemies because I can stroll and kill. The Light In the real world I spend a lot of time with a camera in my hands and paying attention to atmospheric lighting. In Destiny, it is amazing to see the landscape change with the lighting modes as noon turns to dusk or clouds cover the sun. The placement of artificial lights and their cast lights and shadows are rock solid. First of all it fits, but it also gives definition. Dusk on earth and night on Mars are my favorites. I tend to play longer just to enjoy the new look. The Sounds The gun's sounds are spot on, but I also notice and enjoy crunching in the snow, the wind in the pines, the sand eddies on Mars, and walking on just about any surface. If I had a complaint, it would be that walking on rusted out airplanes is too uniform. I would think there would be more variability in the hollow/solid/rusted/slick surfaces. I like the fact that if you launch your ghost to analyze equipment and then turn away from him to check the surroundings for enemies, his voice spins around to the back speakers. Yikes! I like the way my rocket launcher talks to me when I load it and raise it to acquire a target. That soft beepity boop is wonderful foreplay to what is about to arrive. I love the sound of any Hand Cannon. My wife yells to turn it down during firefights because I want it loud to hear the guns. The echo of arms fire in the different locations matches the location. Respect. The Weather I believe that the weather should play a bigger role in Destiny. I am glad to see the House of Wolves trailer show a snow storm. You have some good breeze effects on Earth and Mars, the drippy wetness of Venus is just okay, the Moon, of course, is nothing. but hey, its the moon. My suggestion is to add a thunderstorm somewhere. I know it is winter on earth, but there are sometimes thunderstorms as spring comes in. I used to play Red Dead Redemption just to see the storm clouds build and some wet, sloppy rain flood down. The cues that a Guardian is given when his/her life is down to the minimum include grunts, a warning buzzer, and wet drops on the visor. How about a rainstorm animating similar drops to erode Guardian and Enemy vision. Add the sound of rain on canvas and metal armor and splashes when running and it would be great. Make the rain dictate play and strategy for a short while. The Landscape Detail Best I have ever experienced. Period. Do things get repetitive? Of course, there is a budget after all. But on the whole, every location has something new. I live in the desert. Mars is very familiar to me. I find my Guardian walking around the dead branches/sticks that come out of some sand dunes because I don't want them poking my legs. While running through the wall to get from one location to the next or going into the tower area looking for Xur I avoid walking in the puddles because it takes awhile for my feet to dry out and feel normal again. I am enjoying my small investment in this game and don't mind the random number generator. I want to see the best that Bungie can produce. Keep going, guys.

I really like the loading screen when you are going into a planet, with the camera pointing down at all of your ships. What I like about it is the chromatic aberration that shows up toward the edges of the screen. This is visible when entering croat's raid and you see the purple on the edges of your ships. There also seems to be a bit of softness to the screen edges. I like the simulation of a lens here. It's a nice touch and one I'm glad is in there. Plenty of games are HD, super crisp, and super clean. This CA detail adds to the world experience in a way that we have seen in our use of media and cameras, but maybe never paid attention to. In other words: It makes the game world more"believable".
