A modem only brings Internet into your home at a certain strength them spits it out to your other devices. So if you have 10+ devices like everyone else these days then you'll be running at about 8 Mbps and if wired to modem then you'll only have about 12 Mbps. But connected to a router that is connected to your modem then you'll have double or even triple those numbers. Which is essentially where you should be anyway. My Mbps is 63+
