Logical fallacies

Talk about your most hated fallacies, your most used fallacies, or those you hate to love. I'm currently annoyed by the "burden of proof" fallacy where you insist something is true until others can prove it is false.

  • "I know a guy who..." Examples: I know a guy who was never vaccinated, and he's fine, so vaccines are unnecessary. I know a black guy who never has problems with the police, so racial profiling is a myth. It was cold today, so climate change isn't real. I ate today. Clearly there are no starving people.

  • Any form of circular logic.

The fallacy of making things illegal. For example, drugs and guns. Marijuana is illegal in most states. Now, isn't Snoop Dog the most clean drug-free person you've ever met due to these laws? No, even if you ban something it will still be out there. If you make gun ownership illegal, criminals will still have guns. I'm not really one for fallacies but I do enjoy paradoxes a lot.

  • Not really a fallacy but, think about this. The more you know, the larger your burden will become. Think about it, as a kid you had nothing to worry about. But now you know that the government will tax you in any and every what they can. You also now know that your own death is inevitable and cannot be stopped no matter how hard you try, everyone will die someday. (The whole philosophy is found in Ecclesiastes)

  • "If you do this, it will lead to worse things caused by *this*" you don't know what could happen it's only an assumption

  • Treating complicated things that are alike in some ways and different in other ways as if they are simple things that are either alike in every way or different in every way (I am talking about people)!

  • "First people complained about this and now they complained about that". TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF DAMN PEOPLE. Not everything is black and white folks.
