Looking for scout rifle pointers

Hi everyone. So I recently received the Fang of Ir Yut from Crota's End, and I came to find out that I love using this scout rifle. However, when I carried it into the Crucible, I was unable to get even a single kill with it. I normally run with pulse rifles (have been since before the patch), and I do pretty well with both Bad Juju and the Stranger's Rifle. My average K/D isn't bad, slightly above a 1.0 However running with the Fang, I lost eleven gunfights in a row, before I said "screw it", pulled out the Juju and began melting fools. Anyway, I would love to run with the Fang of Ir Yut, but I haven't been able to make it work in PVP. Does anyone have any experience with this weapon or similar scout rifles? Any constructive pointers would be welcome - thanks! **Edit**
Thank you for all of the tips and suggestions. Using your advice, I am now wielding my Fang as effectively as could have hoped. After a few games, I consistently earned a positive K/D, even up to a 2.0 So thank you very much!
• If you run a scout, don't run a sniper unless u are in a bigger PvP map. It should be for mid/long range. Don't pull that trigger lots of times with the hope of hitting. Pretend it's a hand cannon and wait to pull. Patience. Scout with Shotty or fusion. If you run a slow rate of fire scout make sure you roll a firefly or stability perk. If you run a high rate of fire scout try to find an increased reload speed when mag is empty perk. Always equip gear that helps with reload speed. If your a Hunter, mess with your gunslinger class, with chain of woe and gunslingers trance.

  • I use a scout rifle/shotgun combination. I usually wont use my scout unless its a bigger, and more open map. Otherwise, ill just use my shotgun. I may not have the best gear or the most experienced, but I can still offer some insight.

  • Go with the MIDA or the NITC. THE MIDA is good with hair trigger and good at any range. And put the lighweight perk on it to get +2 agility. Works great

  • I tend to use a different scope on the fang when I do venture into crucible. Rarely but it happens

  • I love scouts and use them in PVE all the time but can not use them effectively in PVP. I stick with Thorn in crucible.

  • Scout rifles are like hand cannons that are effective at a longer range, fire faster, and don't hit as hard. Stay a little farther back than you would with a hand cannon. On fang of it your I use perfect balance and the reload perk instead of target mark

Run perfect balance on fang and you shouldnt have a hard time pinging 3/4 headshots on anyone given youre outside of shotgun range, otherwise buy a crusader/ hope for a mida multi-tool. As far as im concerned mida is the best PvP gun in the game if you can line up a headshot

Hey man. Good question. It sounds like you've been running with the slightly more Auto Rifle-esque Pulse Rifles - higher ROF / full auto etc. These are marvellous in the mid range - especially since the auto rifle nerf has eliminated one of their main competitors - but this play-style doesn't directly translate to using Scout Rifles. If you want a Pulse Rifle comparison, think more in terms of Evergreen or Three Little Words - precision weapons that require you to really consider your shots and are most effective at slightly longer range. These weapons reward a more support-oriented play-style in which you generally stay behind the first line of your team. This gives you time to line up head shots and to finish off weakened foes.

    • Scout Rifles are mid to long range weapons where you 3HKO with headshots, 4HKO with body shots. Unless you have VoC or MIDA don't expect to win must 1v1 scenarios from mid to close range. Think of it more as a semi-Sniper that you would use you pick off low HP enemies or targets from several meters away. My Warlock has a Badger (mid range) variant equip atm but I also have Saterienne Rapier (long range). When you are going for kills shot exclusively for headshot to optimize your gun usage. If Fang isn't working for you then go to Crucible vendor and buy Rapier using a mid scope you should be fine. The key to Scout Rifles, like Hand Cannons, is going for headshots (albiet HC are close to mid, SR are mid to long).

    • I use VoC and I get a steady stream of kills. You are better off at far mid to long range and try to get head shots. 4 to 6 hits should kill. Don't expect a load of kills. I usually manage around 10. Scouts are fun to use but are easily out shot by Thirn TLW etc.

    • I love MIDA Multi-Tool. I was having a good time with it in pvp

      • I used vision of confluence a lot because I love scout rifles. Run with your team or at least a team mate and try to be the first to engage at long to mid range. Close quarters is not your friend. The teammate will help with cover fire. I usually run a shotty as secondary for when it gets too close.
