A brief history on Thorn and The Last Word - 10

TYPE: Perspective: Dredgen Yor DESCRIPTION: The Murder of Pahanin Errata AUTHOR: T-W ASSOCIATIONS: Errata, Pahanin; Yor, Dredgen; The weather is almost the same as the day I faced Jaren. It’s a bit cooler, and slightly later in the day, but the Gap feels like that day. It both excites me and drives me mad. There will be no cameras today. There will be no Lord Shaxx. Just the two of us. Pahanin Errata – You here kid? Kid. Jaren called me a kid. Dredgen Yor – I am. Any rules? Pahanin – Well, since you want to see my machine gun in action I was thinking I could just run it while you run your canon. Dredgen Yor – Agreed. Pahanin – Otherwise, first one dead loses. Dredgen Yor – I am ready. Pahanin – 3…2…1…Go! Dredgen did not leap forward like usual. Patience. Aggressiveness is what lost it for you before. There must be a larger plan, a strategy. TYPE: Perspective: Pahanin Errata The kids aggressive, I remember that much from the video. He will come to me, but I am not Jaren, the machine gun gives me advantages, but it also slows my movements. I’ll need to surprise him if I have a chance. Not that I do. I’m on the same side Jaren started from, but I’ll need to move, get a better location with cover. That odd feeling is back. Coldness. Like the world is a darker place. Like the Vault. Nothing. Where is the kid? He should have been here by now. Pahanin poked his head out from cover and looked around. The place was dead. Dusk was starting to fall, it would be harder to see soon. As Pahanin emerged to get a better vantage point the area around him burst with bullet impacts. Pahanin leapt straight up and saw Dredgen, standing at a great distance, taking pot-shots at him. Pahanin knew Dredgen would figure his machine gun would be all over the place at that, but Pahanin had a surprise in store. As Pahanin leveled his machine gun at Dredgen the barrels of the gun began to rotate. Pahanin hadn’t even reached for the trigger yet, his ghost was getting a head start for him. Rounds boomed from Super Good Advice. The recoil was manageable, but the rounds carried serious punch and they could easily reach out to Dredgen’s position. TYPE: Perspective: Dredgen Yor Impressive. The machine gun cycled very quickly, and it had the range to easily out-match Dredgen’s Thorn. But the recoil had it too difficult for Pahanin to use it like a scout rifle. Dredgen backed up slowly, methodically, and he dissolved into the shadows quickly growing as the sun set. Long range, Dredgen could probably keep up the shots and eventually beat Pahanin, but Dredgen didn’t just want to be victorious, he wanted to humiliate the guardian. Dredgen walked the middle of the field, he would not let Pahanin flip their positions like Jaren did. Pahanin had not moved far, he was still in the main opening inside the building. Would be try to maintain his position and force Dredgen to brave the hail of machine gun fire to get to him? Dredgen needed to get to Pahanin before the machine gun was brought to bear on him. Perhaps he should take a page out of Jaren’s book… TYPE: Perspective: Pahanin Errata Well, that first encounter could have gone better. Dredgen basically dodged my bullets and disappeared. Ok, I need to make him come to me. Behind cover and a hail of bullets I might be able to prevail. It will also be interesting to see how he adapts. A blip on my radar from straight ahead. The corridor. That is where he will come from. Train the optics, stare down the corridor. Wait, what was that? Super Good Advice – Sensors recognize the noise as a blink. No radar presence detected. Great, he is jumping around. Super Good Advice – Another jump detected. And another. And another. Pahanin – Any other news? Super Good Advice – Duck. At that moment a grenade flew over the cover Pahanin was using. No time, gotta move. Pahanin jumped out from cover and saw Dredgen sprinting at him, his Thorn pointed at him. Again, Super Good Advice started the barrels rotating before Pahanin even reached for the trigger; the gun knew it needed to snap Pahanin into action. As Pahanin rotated the gun to point at Dredgen he saw Dredgen’s body blur, then stretch, then disappear. In a blink, Dredgen was next to Pahanin, tapping him with his hand cannon. Pahanin, reacting out of surprise, spun around and struck Dredgen in the chin. The guardian staggered back into a shadowy portion of room and his helmet tumbled off his head. As Pahanin stared at Dredgen the cold feeling re-entered his body, and when Dredgen opened his eyes there was the faint glow of green behind them. Pahanin – What? What are you? Dredgen stared at Pahanin. As he continued to stare, Pahanin began to perceive the truth. Pahanin – Those eyes, I have seen them before. On the moon. Dredgen smiled at Pahanin, the trickle of blood in his teeth. With a swift motion, Dredgen dropped the crucible ammo from his handcannon, loaded real bullets into the cylinder, and pointed the gun at Pahanin. The sound was different then Pahanin had expected. Like an exhale of breath. Then all was dark. Dredgen Yor looked down on the corpse of Pahanin Errata and smiled. He turned and left the Twilight Gap, never to be seen in the Crucible again. Super Good Advice looked upon the body of Pahanin and reached for his Light. If it gathered his Light it could revive him. To the ghosts terror, there was no Light to gather. TYPE: Journal Entry 9 DESCRIPTION: Lack of Light and the Weapons of Sorrow AUTHOR: T-W ASSOCIATIONS: Hive swords, the Thorn Here is the crux of it. When Dredgen Yor killed Pahanin Errata there was no Light left behind to revive him from. This is what the Speaker fears. This weapon does not simply kill its target, it devours the Light from it. While of particular importance to guardians, this power extends to far more than just guardians. I will expound upon this in my next portion of research. It did not take long for the City to find Pahanin’s body. Lord Shaxx requested permission to hunt Dredgen Yor himself, but the state of Pahanin’s Light was troubling to the Speaker and he refused the request. As a tribute to his friend, Lord Shaxx took Super Good Advice to the deserts of Mars, where he had met Pahanin. In a cave near the only landing zone still safe for Guardians, Lord Shaxx sunk the weapons barrel into the ground and hung Pahanin’s helmet from the rifle butt. It was an ode to a fallen comrade, a burial human soldiers had used for over a thousand years. Link to Chapters
