Xur - Unable to purchase items
Please help as Im unable to purchase items from Xur. Example last Friday I wanted to purchase Icebreaker and the materials needed to purchase were Glimmer and Exotic Shard also I needed to have ONE icebreaker. Why would I need to have one existing icebreaker to purchase one ?
P.S - The above was just an example. I was unable to purchase any armour or weapon as I needed to already have one of the specified item to purchase it.

What you're referring to in your post aren't items for purchase, they're for upgrade existing exotics obtained before The Dark Below launched.

2 Replieshey guardian, that section is for weapon/armour upgrades. the very first row of weapons, armour, engrams and shards are for purchase. the second and third row of exotic items are for upgrading gear that was obtained before the dark below DLC. this means if you have any piece of exotic armour with only 30 light, you would purchase the upgrade to bring the light up to 36 for the dark below, but the upgrades would reset. same with weapons. if you obtained an exotic weapon before the dark below DLC it would have 300 damage and you would have to upgrade it

No no no man, that section is to upgrade your pre-patch exotics, not to buy them. Say if I had a thorn with 300 attack maxed, I could upgrade it to after patch at 331 max.

The bottom row of exotics are upgrades from pre DLC exotics

The top row items are general sale items and what you need ie. this week the weapon was uni remote. Also listed are 1 bit of kit for each class, shards and a random non weapon engram. The section you looked at are upgrades of pre-dlc to post dlc levels.

Hey there! Those were [u]exotic upgrades[/u] meant to allow exotic gear acquired before the expansion released to be on par with the newer exotics. Exotic weapons pre-DLC could only reach 300 maximum attack and armor could only reach 30 light. After the expansion dropped, exotic gear could max out at 331 attack or 36 light. Please do NOT take exotic gear capable of 331 attack or 36 light to be upgraded by xur. It will reset the progress and take away valuable materials while leaving the weapon unchanged. It's an upgrade system, it's used to upgrade that pre-existing exotic and up its base attack to 331 instead of 300
