Trials of a Guardian: Orders (Chapter 1: Part II) Brayden’s chest piece was spray painted sky blue, from the front to the back. It was faded and chipping, in red crying letters read “Arm the Homeless”, his helmet matched in color. His gauntlets and boots were a solid black that had tribal flames etched into them in a dark red and soft yellow. His cloak looked exactly like Bree’s, with the exception that the widely known symbol for a raid mission was painted in black on the back. “Brayden, please, we are trying to be civil here. You and your sister’s antics here are totally unacceptable. You two are Guardian’s of the Tower, Hunters in my Vanguard, you will act accordingly,” Cayde-6 looked at the both of them, trying to take control of the situation to keep the other two mentors from killing his Hunters. “What’s unacceptable Cayde, is the fact that Ikora isn’t over here blowing me yet. Am I right?” He smirked as he looked at his sister. “I don’t think you would want that Brayden, she has too many teeth for the likes of your cock” She grinned to show half of her teeth missing, the other half broken, cracked and rotting. “Silence! I’ve heard just about all I can stomach! Get on with this farce already!” Zavala looked one step away from pulling out a gun and shooting the both of them. “Bree, Brayden, the two of you are here to face a list of charges that were officially filed against you from 6 other Guardians that assisted you during the Trial of Change, Ruins, and finally the Trial of Keys. The charges: Reckless endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon, willful negligence, assault and battery, and finally attempted murder.” “Wow, I must say Cay, that list was a lot shorter than I would have thought,” Brayden merely laughed. “I would have thought for sure sexual harassment would have been on there somewhere. It’s been a long time since I got laid” Bree added. “Be that as it may, these are very serious charges, did you two think this was funny? That this was some kind of joke? I chose you two for the Trials because no matter the odd’s, you somehow manage to get it done, but this is going to far,” Cayde-6 replied. “Given the circumstances, the charges, and your overall slatternly attitudes, we cannot turn a blind eye to your behavior, no matter how good you are,” Zavala sat forward as he looked to Ikora, who was so enraged she couldn’t even speak. “One of the captain’s of the fire teams that ran with you the last time out, claims that you, Brayden, intentionally shot him in the right leg,” Cayde-6 read off of his tablet. “In all honesty, if it was a better shot, it would have got him in the head,” Brayden just smiled, but it quickly faded. “Wait, you guys are considering pulling us from the Trials are you? I mean, for f*cks sake we have only two more to go before we can unlock the Vault. You can’t do this to us,” Bree interrupted her brother. “Maybe you worthless peons should have thought of that before you shot one of MY captain’s!” Ikora sprang to life as she stood out of her seat once more. “Peons is a little strong. We were contracted to go in there and find out all we could about the Vault and the Trials, to pull us out now would be a major dick in the ass,” Brayden broke in. “I’m sorry Hunters, there is nothing I can do. It is this counsel’s decision to suspend all activities, contracts and bounties for Bree and Brayden, pending a full-scale investigation of these charges,” Zavala looked at them. “The only thing we can hope for, is that word doesn’t reach the Speaker. We are trying to keep this as under the radar as we can, to eliminate potential embarrassment to the Tower, Guardians and everything we stand for.” Cayde-6 looked to Ikora. “You should consider yourselves fortunate, Hunters. If it were up to me, you two would never set foot on this Tower again, I would have you banished to the rusted scablands of Earth and leave you to your disgusting devices,” Ikora was still standing. “This is absolute f*cking bullshit, and you all know it. The charges are bullshit, your investigation is bullshit, I just hope you realize just what you guys are asking for. You are going to send out a bunch of useless Guardians, if you can even call them Guardians, to pick up where we left off in the Trials. I hope you realize how f*cked you are,” Bree’s face was starting to turn a light red as her anger began to rise. “Seriously, what Bree said. This is f*cked with a capital F. You are going to deny us the opportunity to finish what we started and let someone else take all the credit for it?” Brayden looked to Bree and shrugged “Well, that sounds about what the Guardians do, fame junkies basking in the limelight while standing on the shoulders of the actual people who deserve it.” “We are done here. Get the Hell out and don’t even bother showing your hideous faces around here again until you are brought to justice!” Ikora Rey stormed past the two Hunters and out of the room. “Hideous? I don’t think we are that ugly. Bree, am I that ugly?” “Yeah, Brayden, you are that ugly. I didn’t want to say anything, but your face is pretty brutal.” The brother and sister turned and briskly left the room. The bright light of the sun rained down warm rays on them as they descended the steps down into the main Tower concourse. They put their helmets back on and walked through the throng of Guardians milling around the Tower, visiting the gunsmith, collecting rewards for bounties, decoding strange engrams they find in their travels, just another day. They approached the railing that overlooked the decrepit ruins of the City below them. The wind blew softly as they leaned on the railing, standing next to each other with an inch between them, looking out over the Traveler in the distance. It was a long moment before Bree finally said something. “We aren’t really going to let them keep us from completing the final two Trials, are we?” “Of course we aren’t, don’t be foolish. Do you know how much time we spend in those ruins and caverns? We’ve come too far to let those dickheads tell us that someone else is going in our place and taking the credit for our discoveries.” “You’re not thinking of asking her? Are you?” “Think about it, Bree. The Queen and her brother are probably the most powerful of the Awoken outside of Earth. They have powerful resources, tons of technology and knowledge that surpass our own...The only trick is, trying to get her on our side and help us to finish these Trials.” “If that were the only trick, I wouldn’t consider this such a dumb-ass idea. Her brother is just as insane as we are, not only that, we are human’s, they hate humans, in addition, we are Guardian’s, maybe in name only, but Guardians nonetheless. They hate Guardians.” “That’s fortunate for us because we hate them too,” Brayden smiled underneath his helmet, he leaned on the railing before clasping his hand on his sister’s shoulder. “Don’t worry Sis, I am sure we will be able to find common ground. Think about it this way, we are already one step ahead of the game in that department, the Queen gives the orders and her brother follows them,” He gave her a playful shove before turning his attention back to the Traveller in the distance.
