Fable Legends is a Free-to-Play game

Lionhead has been inspired by Riot and its success with League of Legends, with the heroes available rotated over time or able to purchase for permanent use with in-game currency or real cash.
Four heroes will initially be available for free. After a couple of weeks, all four will become unavailable and be replaced by a new quartet. This will continue, eventually looping round and starting again. In-game silver, earned through quests, can be used to add a hero to your stable permanently or you can use real money. So that's the heroes, but what about the villains? On that front, Microsoft reveals those of a more dastardly inclination will have their own story to play through, during which you'll be able to buy additional creatures to use in maps that wouldn't normally support them. Additionally traps and gates will also be up for grabs, along with magical standing stones.
An FAQ explains all quests and storylines will be free, and says pay-to-win functionality won't be a concern. Customisations, including new hair and outfits, will be available with either earned in-game silver or real money, while some will be cash-only.
As you'd expect, this means you'll need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play Fable Legends on Xbox One. Progress and items earned on console will be synced with the PC version, so you won't have to redo all your progress if you switch platform.[/quote]

You MUST pay for the cosmetic upgrades (like a full color palette) with hard cash. I'm glad to hear that fable will have an in game capacity to earn their "premium" currency to unlock stuff. It's basically grind-for-goods, or pay to have now. This model doesn't bother me (as it didn't bother me in Warframe either). On the outset, it doesn't appear to be pay-to-win. Only time will tell, but the idea of a "free" game shouldn't be so off putting. Markets change. Customer needs and wants change. Us old try hards have to be willing to ride the waves, or sink in the struggle. Obviously they're taking notes from a popular free to pay model already in existence. If the pay model is successful, why wouldn't they shift? They have to keep the AC running in their houses too... Swear this oath now: Play the crap out of it and don't spend a dime! It's the only way the free to play concept will be reconsidered. Otherwise, we're doomed to a future of FTP micro transaction riddled games from here on out.

Actually, the way they are setting this up is pretty legit. There is no time bars, weird gems or paywalls to play this game. MS and Lionhead are taking on a lot of risk in the way they have set this up. I think this is pretty cool actually because I had no interest in paying for this game, now it's almost impossible for me not to try it. GG Lionhead.
