It really grinds my gears when people post about ______________________ in #Community.

Sound off. What do you expect to find here, and what gets in the way of that? I'm very interested in better curation of the forum, and I'm curious about where you see the boundaries between categories. Very interested in sincere feedback. Be sure to upvote what you agree with, too. That helps a lot.

I thought we pretty much explained it all in last week's thread.... But,
Welcome to the Bungie.net public forums! Please read the rules carefully before posting. If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to message a Forum Ninja. The Bungie Community Forum is for all topics directly related to the Bungie community itself, the Bungie.net community, and the Bungie.net website. Additionally, this forum is for discussion about World Domination, Bungie itself, and Bungie lore. -Achronos
That pretty much summed it up back then and is still how I look at it today. The entire Rules and Community thread from B.old If anyone is interested in seeing why this entire subject is a thing today. In other words; -NO LFG -NO Recruiting for ANYTHING -NO Xur ANYTHING -NO Destiny Weapon discussion -NO Destiny Class discussion -NO Destiny Mission discussion -NO Destiny Competitive discussion (Crucible OR IB) -NO Destiny Raid, Nightfall, Weekly discussion -NO Destiny RNG discussion -NO Clan Advertising The name Community has been so diluted and mistaken from what it ever was before, that all new people think that ALL THINGS DESTINY ARE COMMUNITY. - IT ISN'T Community was everything else that wasn't in the regular game of the time's forum. I don't know what it is supposed to be today. We're nearly 2 1/4 years into B.next and we're still having to try to sort this out? The ONLY reason we're here talking about it now is because all the rules and forum management was suspended for a year, and never enforced once the ninja's were given back their moderation tools. So something in the guidelines to them had to change. We didn't. Inevitably this topic is much larger than simply "What is the use of #Community". It could be argued that Community has no place anymore and that it falls under the realm of Off Topic. The problem with that is basically #Off Topic itself. It is predominately patrolled by a group of people who self identify as "The Flood", still. The Flood was never a place for many of us in the past. It was and often times still is an unpleasant place, now more so than ever with the absence of actual, enforceable rules. The CoC today is near meaningless and all too many threads in Off Topic take full advantage of this. So for me, Community was and should still be a "safe" place to post and congregate away from the septic tank that Off Topic can be. {insert self moderation tools use here) <<< Which helps, but does not eliminate or curtail rude and egregious behavior. Since there really have been NO guidelines since B.next for what the forum was for, we old guard have done what we could to try to keep B.Old Community in place. Since there really have been NO guidelines since B.next for what the forum was for, new people use it for anything and everything, and many get angry at us old guard for trying to maintain B.Old's Community. So if you really want to (and imo you do need to) get into this, there is more to it than just simply #Community at stake here. I don't know why things were changed in the move to B.next, but B.Old WORKED. B.next continues to instill chaos and members being displaced. In short - That's not Community. I'd add that with the manner that people are allowed to post today, you are encouraging the new and future generations of B.netters to learn from the poor posting habits, rather than the those who actually care about this place and try to keep a sense of , how should I say this,...... Community.

What shouldn't be here? Anything Destiny related that has no community relevance. This includes, but isn't limited to: LFG posts Clan/group recruitment Anything to do with Xûr Weapons nerfs/buffs In game content Any feedback about Destiny Anything about raids People spamming their Destiny YouTube videos Expansion related topics RNG complaints/loot drop problems Other stuff: Spam bots Glaringly obvious offtopic posts Error code problems Twitch stream advertisements Again, this doesn't cover all the things that shouldn't be here. Just some, and a good number of the problematic ones. Bottom line, 99% of Destiny posts do not belong here. This forum has a blurred line problem with being interpreted as the "Destiny community" and not the "Bungie community" like it should be. The result is the forum you currently have. Once people realize the conversation here is more geared toward them, and has little to do with the game other than being what possibly brought them here, you'll start to see change.

My gears grind when I see: Threads targeting specific players in a negative way, regardless of their wrongdoing. LFG, unless it's some kind of event, like a community raid speed challenge. Plagiarism in #Gallery, haven't seen that yet, but it's something that will happen at some point. Anything discussing game mechanics in the current IP, since there are already sections for that. Gaming clan recruitment, community group recruitment is fine by me (groups like the black garden, community carnage, Art&Stuff, etc).

            • All the points have pretty much been taken so I'll just put what I was gonna say in the spoiler...
Argument, complaint, out of place recruitment, non constructive feedback, threads that aren't actually community related, just general Hatred over something as small as a patch,spam... As a few things that grind my gears. The #Community section should be more about getting to know the forums better,a way for bungie to interact with its community through the forums. Where users can share their creations with the community, game nights can be constructed, where a community spotlight can shine without people arguing about it because "Deej isn't focusing on fixing the game" instead of understanding that different teams do different things. The problem is many new users might be unaware of what bungie has done on the old site and just how long the community has been around.
I know I'm a 1 yr, so I really don't have a very GOOD input on it, but still...I expected this to be the place where community interacts with community... Hopefully that made sense, I'm kinda sick and for all I know I just typed a paragraph of unreadable nonsense

The Ninjas need to be harsher with moving or deleting out-of-place posts and reprimanding those who continually post in the wrong sections. There should also be stickies for the posting guidelines of each section. Designated megathreads for certain topics (i.e. Xûr's inventory) might be a good idea also. These are basic forum practices that would clean up B.net a lot. I know that you guys want B.net to be unique among the countless gaming forums out there, but in my opinion it is currently uniquely bad. EDIT: I know that the point of this thread is to establish what constitutes an out-of-place post, and I hope that my suggestions will be utilized once those distinctions are defined. All I can say is that I'm sick and tired of seeing a million posts about Exotics in every single section of the forums, but sadly that is all there really is to talk about in Destiny. #Gaming is easily my favorite part of B.net right now.

              • Whenever I see a single complaint about something in #community, I always feel like saying to them "save it for the feedback forums", I swear that is nothing but complaints. But I do understand if someone post an idea for Destiny in here, it belongs here. Feedback is simply for reporting bugs (same with #help), and how you feel about the game

                      1. If it complies with CoC its fine 2. If it's posted in the wrong place curate Can't make sense of a mess.

                            • Community, I've always thought, should be the kind of place members come together to discuss things like the Community Carnage, PAX meet ups, and the like. It should be a hub for members to come together and interact in a positive way that helps foster friendships and a stronger feeling of community. Has the the community forum ever really done that? I mean, maybe a little? I recall a whole lot of "nuke the flood," threads back in the day, but even through those the good things managed to float to the top. While I can't offer a solution, what really grinds my gears is the sheer volume of content that's better suited for other forums. The community forum was never perfect, but the types of threads that made this place great always found a way to the surface. Now? Not so much. And yes, a large part of that is simply due to the volume of new members, and it's not something we can solve, but if we came up with a way to better keep content in the proper forums, I'm certain it'd help.
