The Hunt Part IV: Firebase Rubicon

Part 1: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/101800112/0/0 ‘What happens now is you find me a terminal, I can find Tartor’s location that way.’ Ghost said. ‘Any idea how we move about this place unnoticed’ I asked. ‘Try the air vents, they are much larger and built out of thicker material than ours, you should be able to sneak through without making too much noise, if you move right.’ Ghost replied. ‘OK then point me toward the nearest vent.’ A waypoint appeared on my HUD leading me to the end of the entry hall. I moved swiftly over to it and waited briefly while ghost de-materialised the bolts, once that was done I grabbed the vent cover moved it away, I then slipped in and ghost began re attaching the bolts. ‘Know where we can find a terminal?’ I asked, ‘Yes’ Ghost replied ‘This base is very similar to other Cabal installations, particularly it is very similar to Firebase Delphi, there should be a control panel a couple of rooms along, I will bring up a waypoint.’ The waypoint appeared and I began walking toward it, moving slowly so as not to make much noise. I arrived at the vent and looked down at the room, it was filled with Psions. ‘Damn! Is there any other room you know of we can check out?’ I asked. ‘Yes but there is no need, I can hook into the data stream from hear, just make a cut into the wire over there’ Ghost replied, indicating a thick wire that had entered the vent from the room. ‘This isn’t going to electrocute me, is it?’ ‘Don’t worry it will be fine, probably.’ ‘That does not inspire confidence.’ I said, drawing my knife. I made a small cut into the material and Ghost started to do his thing. After a short wait, and no alarms, Ghost said ‘OK, I have a location; I will set a path up. There is a slight problem though.’ ‘What is it.’ asked I asked. ‘He is giving a briefing to his commanders, each of these commanders is worth a strike in their own right.’ ‘OK, we can figure that out when we get there.’ We moved through the vents, taking hours to navigate a path, running from one vent to another when it was required, but soon we arrived at a large hallway, and in that hallway stood five captain standing in a line, they towered over me standing at five meters, but even taller than that stood him, Tartor val Crantas in his dread armour. ‘OK Ghost what can you tell me about these guys.’ ‘Well I have some good news and some bad news, the rifle Cayde gave you should be able to permanently take down Tartor’s shield, but it won’t kill him.’ ‘What about his commanders, if I line it up right can it take them out.’ ‘I am not sure about all of them but it will take out most of them.’ ‘OK, find me the best position to line up, how long do you think we have.’ ‘Not long, but the Cabal have a tendency to follow a very strict routine, If they are here today than they should all come back here tomorrow for the next briefing.’ ‘OK then, we wait for them to leave, when they do I will move to a better spot, what the best spot to line the commanders up?’ ‘Here’ Ghost said, showing another waypoint. The Cabal began to move for the exits, each heading for a different way out. Once they had left I moved to the marked position, I threw my cape over me and settled in to wait. The clap did not work as well with the metal walls of the Cabal fortress as it did with the rocks on the surface of mars, but it was dark and proved to serve well enough. I waited for seventeen hours not moving an inch, waiting patiently for the Cabal to return. This is the part Hunters don’t talk much about, the waiting. My patience was rewarded the Cabal commanders marched into the briefing room followed by Tartor. They lined up on either side of the briefing table, the commanders were lined up neatly in front of me, I lined up their heads and breathed, I whispered to Ghost as soon as I pull this trigger I need you to seal all the doors, don’t worry about making me revivable, if I fail here, there will be no one to revive me.’ ‘Good Luck Kiad.’ I breathed in I breathed out I breathed in again and pulled the trigger, the bullet slammed out the rifle and the rifle slammed into my shoulder. The bullet ripped through the skulls of the commanders, unprotected by their helmets that they had removed. One, two, three, four and it hit five. The fifth did not die but I was already moving, I had activated the cloaking device and was moving directly for the final commander, I reached out for the light and summoned a golden gun. BAM BAM BAM, three shots straight to the head and he was down. I turned to face Tartor. He stared back at me. I pulled out my heavy machine gun and laid into him, firing flaming rounds into his shields, the clip soon ran dry but his shields were down. He reached for his giant machine gun so I threw a flaming grenade at him. The grenade burst and it scorched his unprotected face. His hands went to his face instantly. I ran toward him and shoved my knife into his armor so that I could climb up him. He knocked me away; I flew across the room sliding along the ground. Quickly I leapt to my feet, and charged directly at him again, this time I threw both my throwing knives at him. The first lodged into his arm, the second hit the mark and cut into his head. He cried out in pain. I grabbed the knife that I had lodged into his armor earlier and climbed up to his shoulders. I drew The Last Word, and fired every round into his head, screaming a war cry as I did so. His body began to topple, I leapt of so as not to be crushed under his weight. His body fell to the ground. Tartor val Crantas was dead. But I was not done yet. Part V coming soon
