How about you pay for "premium" in here and if two people have it, you can trade?
You can normally trade up to legendary weps, but past that if you wish to trade an exotic you must possess an exotic for exotic on top of 5 exotic shards on both ends. This way it's more of a hassle and requires you to somewhat earn the ability to trade, I don't see much difficulty in it either, to trade the raid legendaries you must also trade the 5 shards, for raid exotics, 25 exotic shards, that seems pretty fair
Edit: if connection is lost on either end during trade, items are lost forever

IF (huge IF here) they were to add a trading system, I think it should only be done after the rewards screen and have certain level experience requirements or prerequisites. Such as, after finishing a raid, you can trade certain weapons for armors or materials. If you don't have materials required for trade? Then you don't get it. But not all values would be the same, like the Gjallerhorn could only be traded for another exotic weapon or piece of armor, 5000 glimmer, and an exotic shard. Conversely, the No Land Beyond could be traded for a piece of Plasteel Plating, Hadronic Essence, or Sapphire Wire. Really make the person trying to get the trade feel like they really put in the work to get these things. Just some ideas.

I think the only prerequisite for trading should be that both players have completed required event for drop. As in no trading raid helmet to players that haven't killed Crota at least once.
