The secret to the Vault of Glass, right under our nose?

EDIT: Moving the bottom edit to the top because apparently people aren't reading the whole post before replying. EDIT: This is an old topic that got bumped for some reason. This was originally posted back in November and a lot has been revealed since then that I no longer think this theory has any weight whatsoever. I have read pretty much all of the major threads and theories. I will say that I do believe there is something that we have yet to find inside the Vault of Glass. It may be that it hasn't even been patched in yet, or just that it is so cleverly hidden like a certain skull from the past. So one avenue is the Grimoire cards. At worst, we have some pretty cool lore surrounding the Vault of Glass that may or may not have a hidden message. If it does, I think this one is continually misunderstood: "No one can open the Vault alone. I opened the Vault. There was no one with me but I was not alone." A lot of people interpret this to mean the beginning phase where you have to defend three sync plates. I have heard a lot of interesting theories about how to do this part alone. But this part, you are not opening the Vault of Glass, just the way to it. The Vault of Glass is the final room of the raid. Atheon's room. The raid might be called that, but when Kabr is mentioning opening the Vault, this has to be what he means. Further, you definitely cannot open this alone. You have to wait until your entire raid is in front of the door to open it. So, with that said, what if there was a way to open this alone while your raid was somewhere else? What if the other 5 people go the alternate route to the inactive portal and wait there while one person goes and stands in front of the door? What if there are other things for the other members to be doing before someone attempts to open the door alone? The Vault of Glass is sealed until you open it. So perhaps, if you were to do something to trigger some other special events, when it opens, it would be a different time period and you would enter into the past and be able to save Kabr? Curious what you all think? EDIT: This is an old topic that got bumped for some reason. This was originally posted back in November and a lot has been revealed since then that I no longer think this theory has any weight whatsoever.

Here is my theory Kabr and 5 other guardians opened the door to the raid and as they progressed through it they started dying off one by one, until Kabr was the only one left. Knowing that he was going to die, he decided that he would sacrifice himself to help any other guardians that were to follow in his footsteps. He managed to kill a gorgon and fashioned the relic out of it's remains and his light. Drained completely of his light, Kabr did not actually die as he had intended, but transformed into a creature of the dark and was then subsequently rescued by the 9 Warminds. Now every Friday he comes back to the tower to again try to help guardians complete what he had started, but he can only survive in a place of light for so long before having to retreat back into the shadows. That's right, I believe that Xur is actually Kabr reborn in the darkness. In my mind this explains quite a lot, for example the fact the Xur has less of a backstory than even the stranger, it could also explain the line: "Now it is done. If I speak again, I am not Kabr."

      • I have a theory but it's something I'd have to explain verbally. Basically, I believe there is a great puzzle at work on Venus. Notice all the bright blue and red light-streams flowing in certain directions. Notice all the seemingly inactive Vex Gateways in different parts of the path that leads to Zadron's gate. There's definitely a puzzle that needs solving on Venus. There's also a hidden room in the Vault of Glass if anyone ever wants to hit me up to check it out.

      • i don't know if anyone knows this but i was in a fire-team of 6 and after we killed atheon i walked backwards into one of the vex gates i was in the vault of glass but not the same vault as my team mates. it looked different like no one had been to it in years i could see my team mates green blips on the radar but when i turned around to look they could not be seen, i was marked by the void and the screen went black before i could explore it, i hope this helps find the missing chest

More intense VOG theorizing below, click at your own risk, so much text. Credit goes to Agrogiant.

Finally, the mystery has been solved. After nearing the anniversary of the game, the Vault of Glass has been cracked. "Causal pathways converge on Atheon from every axis in the space-time bulk." - Atheon Grimoire Atheon is the conflux of every time axis in the space-time bulk. He is one of the only two constant entities in the Vault. The other being the Aegis. What's happening during the Atheon fight is every guardian to ever fight Atheon in the infinite history of time is converging on Atheon from their personal and private time line. So during Time's Vengeance, you're not doing extra damage, you're just attacking Atheon at the same point in time as every other guardian fighting him. Every bullet that hits for extra damage is the exact bullet hitting Atheon from a parallel timeline. Atheon is fighting infinite amounts of guardians at once. Now the story of Kabr states he is still alive within the Vault fighting the Vex. This was a more tricky solution but it's a paradox. Kabr is fighting Atheon with us, but he is also on his own timeline. Atheon is defeated within time, of course, we are able to beat him. But not without the help of the Aegis. If Kabr had the Aegis during his fight with Atheon he wouldn't have lost and would've came home, however he didn't. He lost, and for him to lose he would have to not have made the Aegis. However, the Aegis is still within the Vault when we converge down there. So what happened? Solution: We descend into the Vault before Kabr's fireteam did. Kabr has not existed in our timeline yet, but he does in the future. When he bends time with the Aegis it becomes a solid entity in the Vault, it becomes the counterpart to Atheon. For Atheon to exist, the Aegis must exist as well. This is why no enemy can pierce the shield, because it is made equal to Atheon. So to put it simply, we enter the Vault before Kabr. In Kabr's timeline he creates the Aegis to counter Atheon. Atheon exists in our timeline so the shield is written into existence on our timeline by Atheon so he can exist. So how is Kabr a legend in our timeline? Kabr was the only guardian truly unwritten from existence. Almost like saying he was damned to suffer the Vault for eternity. He lives on as long as Atheon does. Atheon's processors, the gorgons/oracles/templar must've written him out at some point and so he written into some eternal version of the Vault. This is why he forgot his team, his team made it out of the eternal suffering, but was either killed or locked inside until death. Kabr lives on inside the vault, and fights for his existence, which is why the shield appears in times of need, and why his armor is found in the vault. To put it into terms more or less accurate, he is a ghost inside the Vault, aiding us to defeat Atheon. If we defeat Atheon from our timeline, Atheon in every other timeline is defeated as well, including Kabr's. Which would write him into existence again. So why is Kabr still not written into existence? Because when Atheon is summoned in our personal timelines, time freezes. At that point every guardian to ever fight Atheon is frozen in time until the point in which Atheon is defeated. Okay so what about the Vex Mythoclast? The ultimate reward for DEFEATING Atheon, which I just said is impossible until the end of time, which is never. It's in the description of the gun. A causal time loop. For time to end, everything would need to end, so for time to prevent ending itself it instead restarts itself. Atheon is time. Once Atheon is gone, time is gone. Time cannot be gone. It loops itself and we revert back to our journey prior to defeating Atheon. Sorry for the long read, let me know what you think! Edit: Thank you community for all the support and opinions! A lot of you have proven that Kabr did exist before our timeline and it's completely true. So to explain this shortly and simply, Kabr's fireteam existed before us and went down into the Vault. Upon reaching their final point, Kabr was unwritten from existence by the will of Atheon to be damned to the only place he could exist, nowhere. An eternal Vault of Glass. Damned to be by himself. However this was not a quick disappearing act. The way the grimoire states being 'unwritten' from existence means it must take time to 'unwrite' him. As he was being unwritten he was losing his mind and sometimes he would see his fireteam with him, others he would not. To put it easily he was between realms. Blinking in and out of both. His fireteam's fate is unknown, all except Pahanin. He made it out of the Vault with little sanity after watching Kabr slowly go mental before completely disappearing into thin air. Scared of the same fate, he created the Super Good Advice to keep his sanity before meeting his end with Dredgen Yor. Thank you again for all the support fellow Guardians! Edit 2: Many people are asking questions along the lines of "What do you mean time freezes when we summon Atheon? What do you mean we can't defeat Atheon? End of time? What?" Well for another simple-ish explanation: When we summon Atheon time is frozen, but from our perspective we jump forward to the point in time of Atheon's defeat, when every guardian who will fight Atheon has summoned him. The point in time where Atheon fights every single guardian in existence. Once Atheon is defeated, there are two possible outcomes. We stay in the Vault, from our perspective we just defeated Atheon. But in real time the fight was won, time was broken, everything ceases to exist and we are teleported to the only place where nothing exists, the same eternal realm Kabr was cursed to. Or time resets to before we defeated Atheon. So, once defeating Atheon we are then unwritten from existence and are cursed to the same realm as Kabr, or time resets prior to your specific guardian entering the Vault. Edit 3: To everybody commenting "Where's the secret chest?!", I'm currently working on it. I was out of commission from my PS4 for three months. I just got a new one, and I'm currently catching up with all my characters and enjoying the details of the House of Wolves DLC. With each DLC released it seems theories will have to change, as 'MoonliteMatthias' stated when the Wolves entered the Vault. HOWEVER, Luke Smith made a comment in the ViDoc for Taken King: (7:30 is the time stamp) "Is there another chest in the Vault of Glass? I'll never tell." This alone leads me to believe that there's something else in there, or it means the secret chest is just a meme now. Either way, I'm leading an expedition into the Vault in search of this chest, as many have done before me. I'll be exploring once I receive the Bones of Eao for my hunter so I have the ability to explore more in depth. I'm on PS4 and I need people who have experience with exploring the Vault to come with me. You can add me through my PSN 'Agrogiant' with a message saying you want to be part of the expedition, and then I'll group message the team with a time and date. Thank you all for the comments, I greatly appreciate each and every one of you. Let's uncover every shrouded mystery the raid has to offer. [Edit 06-03] ... .. We must save Kabr... What would you guys like me to write about next? Or anything else you might want some insight into? Let me know!

• So I have read and thought long and hard on the theories that have been going around for the Vault. I personally believe there is more to the VoG and would like to get an expedition crew to go through. Personally I don't think it has to be done on Hard because of the fact that when you are done with the raid on normal it still shows the "Raid armor" and "ascendant materials" though all other missions it goes away after its completed so I don't think the level matters. What I think we would have to do is basically a perfect run. The steps I believe we would have to take are as follows 1. No sync plates taken at all in beginning. 2. Everyone bypass 1st chest and take lower path to Templar in search of "new" chest. 3. No sacrifices to confluxes. 4. No missed oracles and no marks by Fanatics. (supposedly IF you get marked by fanatic and cleanse in pool the gorgons gaze "should not kill" would also like to check this theory) 5. No Templar teleports. Take secondary path to Labyrinth for no teleport chest and do not open spirit bloom chest. 6. Kill FIRST gorgon and then go through labyrinth with out any detection as fast as possible(the Perseus/ Medusa run) (there is supposed to be a chest that spawns in the crystal cave that is said to have a timer) 7. Kill Gate Keepers get relics. No praetorian sacrifices. 8.(Atheon Fight) this will be most likely the hardest if following the scoreboard theory. We will have to kill Atheon with no Time's vengeance. So no killing oracles in the portals and if still following the Scoreboard theory that means no supplicant kills either. I would really like to try this plan out so I would need a team of Guardians with lots of patience and time (not the gun) preferably anyone that has completed the raid multiple times to know what to do and how to do it. My PSN is Omg1tz3lmo312 (O as in Oh) I am on ps4

            • In the grimiore it says kabr pierced the vault and let in light, in the atheon arena you can see a giant hole in the wall behind where atheon comes out and if you look at it with a sniper you will see that it is very detailed unlike everywhere around it, possibly you can somehow get over there and find something someone please go try this.

              • If you sit before the door, random apparitions appear quite often. These have a similar shape to ghosts, and could be what happened to the ghosts of kabr and the other guardians. Just an observation.

I don't think you need a raid team to open the vault. I was goofing around at the gorgon cp and went all the way to the gate keeper fight. I was able to open that door by myself, which kind of made me mad. I was alone no one else was there but I was still able to open it. It made me feel like I went against the grimiore and lore to the vault.

There is a story of which you may see kabr and his fire team in the past using the mythoclast at the Templar, also there is one secret to be uncovered you just have to know where to look.

                      • Yea. The grimiore is just a halfcocked attempt to replace the original story that got hacked. I'm sure the reason they made it so vague, cryptic, and mysterious, was just to keep the waters muddied. They knew that without the original story, this game has more plot holes than a tabloid magazine. So I do believe you are giving bungie far too much credit.

I've been thinking this too.. Ive posted this elsewhere but I'll post it again for exposure so many people may see this post and we can all try it out. Has anyone tried to bring a Eye of the Gatelord in? The info for it reads: "The charged eye of a Vex Gate Lord can be used to infiltrate the most protected layers of their network". What about using it to forestall the past gate in the vault of glass when teleported to past venus? Reading the Zydron grimoire says this: Zydron, Gate Lord Grimoire: ...Warlock scholars believe that Gate Lords regulate traffic between Vex gates, and that their minds contain codes that might open the way into forbidden realms. An enormous amount of hope and anger has been spent on a particular debate - could we find a Vex gate that opens onto a place and time before the Collapse, and somehow forestall it? What if you are supposed to go into the past with the gatelords eye and forestall it from closing. Which then begs the question, if beating atheon is just the first part of the VoG "knot" (as a dev called it) are you supposed to solve the greater "knot" or puzzle by interpreting grimoire, and going into the past, forestalling the gate, opening the vault door, and heading back to the gorgon's maze to save Kabr? What if your not supposed to give it to the queen (doesn't she or her brother sabotage it? maybe its because you can use it to begin to usurp her?) IDK right now this is all speculation but thats my working theory, I will come back and update my findings as appropriate

So let's talk about the Gate Lord:Zydron. Its Grimoire says it may have codes for a portal before the collapse. We know bungie loves the number 7 and in the Greek mythology there are 7 Gate Lords to the Realms of Hades.(The 7 Gate Lords are Spartans). So maybe there are 7 "Zydrons" in total and everyone has a piece of the code. And maybe it is not a portal for pre-collapse times but for a dark future where the Vex took control.Look at Mercury more speciffically at the Burning Shrine or the Lighthouse(if Lighthouse then only the view not the Lighthouse itself).Looks kinda like the Tartarus doesn't it?Or maybe the portal sends us to a world full of Vex...that would be hell for me *-*
