Well we can count the hours until we play Destiny and yet I still see confusion and misinformation about when we can play.
Numerous posts linking Bungies servers to 1201 Pacific time because people are misreading or not understanding the digital stores (Xbox live and PSN). Soooo I posted this below to hopefully help some people that are still confused. Hope it helps. And if you don't believe the information please feel free to research it....but if you do please actually get multiple sources because I have. I checked:
Bungie forums
Twitter
Destiny reddit
Deej's mail sack
Dattos Destiny
more Console
Byf
guardian radio podcasts
The digital stores (Xbox live and PSN)
And more
So here's the info
The digital download time IS NOT from Bungie headquarters. The unlock time for digital content is through YOUR retailer ( your retailer is the Sony PSN or Xbox LIVE).
Many forum posts are about this. Bungie turns the servers ON when the 1st timezone turns into Tuesday September 9th. That occurs in New Zealand midnight which is roughly 10am Monday sept 8 in the eastern United States (or 7am pacific US Time) BUT that's the servers NOT the unlock digital content time.
Please look at your PSN store or Xbox LIVE store and you can see the fine print FROM Sony and Microsoft saying the digital game will unlock at 12 PST (3am eastern). That's the digital store unlocking your game time.
You must understand we are dealing with TWO DIFFERENT EVENTS:
1- Bungie servers opening
EDiT Monday 0830 pacific time as of this edit post servers ARE LIVE and open
2- your game unlocks (digitally from a digital store OR unlocks when you insert a physical disc into you physical system)
^You need both of the above before you can play the game. !!!! However what order that happens depends on many factors like what timezone you live in, what version you bought (digital or physical disc) , if you bought digital then what digital store zone you bought from (PSN United States, PSN Europe, PSN japan, PSN AU etc etc)
So IF you live in the eastern United States you might wish to buy a physical version of the game from gamestop or pray Sony or Xbox is sympathetic that day and unlocks the game before midnight pacific time.
I hope this helps. I have spent a Crap-ton of time researching this on the Bungie forums, Destiny reddit, guardian radio podcasts, twitter, Dattos Destiny, Byf and more and THEY SAY what I said above. But feel free to look it up yourself.
I hope it makes sense and you all can figure it out.
See you all starside !
Edit 1: Here's a link for so more information for United States playstation digital information. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/09/05/destiny-preload-now-and-prepare-for-tuesday/
Thank you to Raxx for that link info
Edit 2: Heres ANOTHER link explaining that the server WILL be up on Monday (United States Monday time). It's from IGN
http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/09/03/destiny-review
Edit 3: Well it's MONDAY and just as above stated the servers are LIVE. Go watch people on twitch play right now:
http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Destiny
So now if you want to play you just need your physical disc OR you digital content to unlock whenever you digital store unlocks it.
Yep just more proof for the people that keep arguing about the servers. Enjoy.

I've seen so much misinformation and confusion surrounding this topic. Thank you for taking the time to explain It. If anyone reads that and still doesn't get it then there really isn't any hope of that happening, thanks again.

Wouldn't the first timezone be GMT, they said the servers would be on when it is midnight anywhere in the world which to me means 00:00 GMT...
-
I wouldn't be suprised the physical copies will be locked as well, when you put them in your XBOX or PS, until the timer unlocks. As you will have to install the game on HD and download an update anyway. So even if you can pick up your physical copy, you will be facing the same unlock time as digital purchasers.

Why do people care this much. So people in new Zealand can play a few hours before me, big deal. Plenty of people because of work family friends and other commitments won't be playing until this weekend or maybe later. For those of you screaming about this just grow up.

Edited by lordvikagaming: 9/6/2014 6:10:05 AMShow me a link where they 12:00 am 9/9 on international date line and not WHEN IT'S 9/9 SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD. By opening the servers at the international date line they are allowing the people who live on or near the international date line close to 24 hours before 3/4 world. So show me a link where they tell you they will screw over 3/4 of the world on there midnight release.

It's sad after weeks & weeks of this confirmed & such an effort from you here, these dumbass jabroni's still can't figure it out

This just in: This thread has replaced "Lord of the Flies" as a required reading selection in the American school curriculum.

Edited by ThatzAscarySight: 9/7/2014 9:40:07 AMHow late will it be online in europe? And how late will the digital version be available for download?

Edited by Watchtower: 9/7/2014 9:03:33 AMaccording to my research, Kiritimati Island is two hours ahead of new zealand, 21 hours ahead of PDT...meaning technically the servers should be up for someone there first, which would translate to 0300 pdt monday morning. fyi. Im on the west coast, and I would *LOVE* it if sony opened up the servers early cause that will give me another 3 hours of gaming.

Nice info! Personally thought that it was midnight for every time zone individually, but I did digital download and the clock is set to pacific. Nothing to complain about.
Wednesday September 10th, all of the threads just like this one will be obsolete. See you star side.
Cool huh?

I preordered Limited Edition from Best Buy, so does that mean if I can pick I up on the 8th I can play at 10:00 am? (I'm in Eastern)
-
Edited by Destiny Fanboy: 9/7/2014 3:06:08 AMI live in US eastern times and this is when my game starts

Hey Azreal80, I wanted to just say a quick thank you for posting this information. I know you have gotten some negative feedback, but I hope you will listen to those of us who appreciate your efforts over those who only have bad things to say.

Edited by Pellmell54: 9/7/2014 2:10:52 AMAgreed, have another reference here that I put some stock in, I can't remember the last time IGN flat out lied to me about something, they mention they will be starting playing, and starting their livestream at 10AM PST on the 8th of September, since the servers won't be going live until 5 AM PST for the Australian release, and they will have a copy of the game since review copies have been sent out for use. That of course means that while the services will not be allowing you to download digitally until the unlock time for your area, if you have a disc, it means you can play. That of course does mean that certain parts of the world will be playing earlier than the U.S, but that is OK. Seriously.. its just a day, deal with it. REFERENCES!! http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/03/destiny-review And it seems more like they don't post quotes or whatever jack crap like that to prove it because they simply accept it as obvious.. which is at it should be...

Didn't feel like reading it all but if I'm in NY when's the earliest I can play?
-
This is a very good article even though I knew this. I wish people would look for once and understand. This is the main reason I'm buying a physical copy and going to game stop. It's not rocket science. See you guys at game stop on monday! #notgoingtoschoolon9/9
-
Sony hates folks like me that live on the East coast. Because of that I'm only going to purchase one more digitally and that's DAI. The order 1886 lol that i will buy from gamestop. Beat it and trade that bleep in. Until Sony changes it's digital download policy for East cost gamers I'm done with pre order digital downloads.

Good thing I got both!
