Xbox Digital Guardian Edition.... HAS ARRIVED

XBOX ONE GOT THE DIGITAL GUARDIAN EDITION TODAY!!!!!!!!! I just cancelled my limited edition and got the Digital Guardian Edition instead. OK I won't get the extra goodies but who looks at them after a week anyway. What I will get it the ease of loading up a game of Destiny no matter what I will have been playing. "XBOX go to Destiny" .... and I'm in the game. And yes, I'm downloading the game already. This is how the Xbox should have been from the start. Sod the discs... Discs are sooooooo 2k-ish.

  • Much to my wife's credit, I've gotten out of the habit of keeping my video game library out on a shelf for display, so I care substantially less about getting the physical media than I used to. In the case of Destiny, I enjoyed the Beta so much (and I have sufficient faith in Bungie in the long run) that to me it just seems easier to go digital in this case and forget about disk swapping, so DGE pre-order I think it's going to be at this point... Also, for those saying it takes just a few minutes to install from physical media, that has not been my experience. I have a launch day xbone and just last night I had to reinstall Titanfall (continually crashing to the Home screen when trying to load), and I stopping paying attention after it had been well over 30 minutes. Also, if the Beta was any indication, there may not be the option to start playing when the install reaches some fixed level of progress. Recall that with the Beta you were actually downloading what amounted to an installer which then had to unpack the game after it had completed. So, there's that. I also just don't care about playing at midnight ET - I need to sleep. :) It'll be there the evening of the 9th, but again, preload has the advantage of me being able to sit down that evening and play, whereas if I waited for Amazon Prime (via UPS), the disc wouldn't arrive until 6pm at the earliest, meaning it could be a few hours still for install/patching before I can play from disc.
