Why is there a "console war"
People really need to get a grip on this so called "console war". Bungie is making a great game for BOTH consoles. There are the occasional TIMED exclusives. It's not like they only made the game for PS. Either way, there are exclusive games for both consoles so it goes both ways. Everyone needs to just grow up. I don't want there to be an XBOX community and than a PS community. I want it to be one big gaming community. Thank you.

Console war exist because different consoles separate 1 community of gamers if consoles came together and let all consoles play on the same servers and released all games for every console there would be no console war

15 Repliesit is due to complex emotions that we all feel after making a high risk/high involvement purchase; known a cognitive dissonance. We feel the desire to in some way justify our purchase in order to not feel like we have made a mistake. There are many ways people overcome this feeling such as talking about the benefits of the product with other who have bought the same, seeking out positive information on the product or, and this is why we have the 'console wars', rubbishing the competitions product. What has happened is that two groups who really feel the need to justify their purchases in a community that is as tightly grouped as gaming start arguing over which product is the best and over blowing the problems of the competitor. That is the best description I can give of why console wars exist and will continue to exist as long as new consoles are launched

there are wars about everything in every art form. I dont really know why but I think part of it is "feeling like ur part of something bigger than yourself" and feeling like you belong to a group.

I thought about the whole fanboi phenomenon while on the way to work. There are a couple of factors I think play a big role in the development of these attitudes. 1. Pride in one's purchase. Car example: I'm paying for brand X, there for it's better than brand y. I don't want to ever feel bad about my purchase. I will put down brand y because I feel like it threatens the confidence I have in my purchase. 2. I suck at lots of things except playing my games on my console of choice. Therefore, I must put down others to assert my dominance in this narrow field. 3. I'm unhappy, therefore you are not allowed to be anything but unhappy with me. Otherwise known as the douche bag. This covers most of the idiocy of the internet at large. These are my big three. There are other good ideas, and I'd love to see intelligent discussion. Then I remember this is bungie.net... Not exactly a place for rational, deliberate thought. Flame on. I'm happy so you words only amuse me. 😀

the same reason "Ferd" and "Shivvy" truck owners have beef...people like to have to justify themselves whether thru racism, buying preference, even at young ages. Who determines what is this years cool lunchbox, or backpack, or -shirt? PC or Mac? It's all personal preference, but for some reason everyone HAS to blather on about why theirs is better than someone elses using both true and false "facts" that mostly come from internet searches (there's a reason many serious education institutions don't allow web search results as proper sources of applicable information). Physically fit celebrities look down on the unhealthy average joes while the average joes fire back with "who wants to be stick thin anyway?" or "I may be fat but I'm sassy!"...those who are considered cultured or educated call others uncouth, while the uncouth fire back with "fk you, I say what I want!"...It's all Fire and Return-fire in our world, no one can be happy unless they can convince themselves that what they have or are is better than someone else...let them have their little wars, I'm going to get what I want, play what I want, and enjoy my own life undictated by all those people out there who are so unhappy with their own lives that they have to find fault in others in order to feel any justification for their own existence.

9 RepliesXbox started the console war against Playstation. The only reason why Xbox is popular is because it's made in the US. In japan they don't even sell Xbox because everyone buys the playstation anyways.
