My proposal for matchmaking in raids

I think there is a solution to the lack of matchmaking in raids. If we had an actual pre-game lobby where people can check out other peoples gear and then decide whether to let them join, a lot of our problems can be solved. People can communicate their requirements and expectations. You might make new friends or clan mates. The current policy just doesn't seem to be tailored to the players of destiny. Only 1/6th of the beta players even used the forums. That's a lot of people not experiencing the full game. If raids were so important then why are they so poorly supported? There is no ingame clan support or anything resembling a guild, no matchmaking which makes them harder to join, there isn't even a proximity chat or looking for raids feature. This wouldn't help too much seeing as how there are only 16 visible players at once. Well let me know what you think. I feel bungie dropped the ball hard in the raids aspect of this game. I feel that I would rather spend time playing and losing than not playing at all.

    • What would you do to stop people from quitting halfway through a raid? For me this is the main problem with Raids and MM.

      • Considering that the games are already being made and boxed up, I don't think we have a chance of them setting up MM for the vault. Probably not until a major update or expansion if anything; but I highly doubt it since it's neither breaking the game or losing customers.

        • why cant people just come here to solve "looking for group" problems? here on bungie and im sure on other sites there will be a dedicated area to search for a raid group.. whats more of a problem than this is the fact that there is no custom game lobbies. Raid MM can be solved indirectly using a third party website, but the problem of fighting side by side against chosen opponents or even friends cant happen :( which is what saddens me the most.

                    I like the idea, I don't know why people care about PUGs doing raids. In the words of Ivan Drago, "if he dies, he dies". The lobby you are talking about sounds like an in-game version of what people will probably be doing anyways when creating threads in forum for raids. I understand raids are supposed to be hard but this is a skill based shooter not an MMO...completion of the raid should be a testament to player shooter skills not their ability to be an event coordinator and manage several peoples schedule in my opinion. Edit: I'm in a clan and have plenty of friends so I will be doing raid without MM, I just think it should be an option for players.

                          • I actually think you can do most of that here on b.net. problem solved. Also, if the matchmaking experience would be anything remotely close to the strike matchmaking then bungie made the right choice.

                              • No, no, and no. I fully support the notion of no matchmaking for Raids. If you can't find 5+ other people to friend you (such as clan), then you're just being lazy. I don't want them to dumb it down, or nerf it because people complain over and over they can't get through it. And that will happen with PUGs. NO!!!

                                • I think you're going in the direction of my proposed solution to the problem that does not exist but will exist when people get hit with hard reality. Basically, I was proposing the same as you, but done at the app/website. A calendar where players could leave their availability and say okay on this and that day at this and that time I'm available for doing this and that raid. Then others can check them out and decide if they want to join in on that scheduled team. Hell, if I wasn't so full of work right now, I'd do it myself, since I got plenty of experience on web systems. If Bungie doesn't sort it out and I do end up loving the game, I just might.

                                  • Bungie is not going to make Raids have a matchmaking ability, they have already said this. Reason is that Raids are way too long for 6 randoms to complete.

                                      • Due to being on console the chat element of "looking for group" in a chat window becomes difficult as there is no keyboard, where as pc games use this very well, so a separate chat system would be useful, let me know your thoughts on what I have put together so far, check out the link.

                                        • I doubt that this would work, it tells players that they dont need to strategize or prepare for raids. Bungie has clearly stated that raids will take a lot of preparation, and planning to complete, and you cant really do that with someone you've just met. Did you hear how long it took a group of players to do the vault of glass? 16 hours of failing until they finally did it. Maybe it's just me, but would rather not spend 16 hours with a total stranger on the final mission of the game.
