• Calm down man, it's for a good cause.

 • Dumping a container of ice water generates no revenue towards research for any cause.

 • It's the ice water challenge aspect that raises awareness, and adds a bit if fun to those who want to participate. The whole point of the challenge is you can either donate $100, or dump a bucket of ice water on your head and donate $10. Though most people who participate for the actual cause dump water on themselves, then donate more than $10 anyway.

 • Yeah, I'm well aware of what it's supposed to do. I didn't need it spelled out.

 • If you were well aware, you shouldn't have commented in a way portraying you had no clue.

 • Your inability to interpret my post should not be mistaken for evidence of my understanding. I dislike this attention scheme because we have tens of thousands of people dumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of water for attention while we have crippling droughts affecting our own country, let alone the rest of the world. We've lost an estimated 35 billion dollars in agriculture revenue in the mid-west due to drought, Northern Ohio and Southern Michigan suffered water shortages when Lake Erie suffered an algal bloom, and livestock in the west are at a sixty year low because ranchers can't obtain reliable sources of clean water. But you're right, I don't have a clue. Go ahead and dump a pitcher of ice water on your head and post it on Youtube.

 • If your issue really did stem from drought you should've started with that, not made some vague comment portraying an ignorant confusion between raising awareness and seeking attention. And to an extent, you're right. There is an issue in that some people are using this only to gain attention, but up to this point over twenty million dollars has been raised for ALS research. There's a bit if a priority issue here if you're willing to overlook that because of a few people with nothing better to do than try to appease whoever will spare them a few moments. What do you propose instead? That each person to do the ice bucket challenge instead carry their water to a drought stricken area? Ultimately the fact that these people dumped water on their heads has no correlation to droughts. It's a terrible thing, and attention should be brought to it, at least, more than there currently is. But this challenge really shouldn't be considered anything but a positive campaign.

 • No, I'm suggesting that people practice common sense and stop wasting potable water. To suggest that, in order to raise money for ALS, it has to be dumping water is just silly. Don't stop campaigning for ALS or awareness, do stop wasting water. It is really that simple.
