So the concern is that the continuity doesn't line up with reality, or that the events and technology are completely unfeasible?

  • The thread poses the question: Does a Science Fiction piece lack immersion with the audience when it is no longer in the realm of possibility, whether due to the time the piece takes place in coming and going, or the technology moving from 'futuristically conceivable' to 'we now know this cannot happen with the laws of physics.'

  • Okay, I see. I don't see a problem with events taking place in our past, unless they put an emphasis on trying to make it seem like reality (by using well-known politicians or current events). But it's interesting that you brought up Doctor Who; the previous problem can be explained away by saying our universe is just one of many versions of reality. What really gets me is how absurd a lot of the technology and aliens are. It seems less like a sci-fi show and more of a fantasy show set in space.
