Reading the comments was a bad idea, and only served to piss me off, so I'm going to say something and be done.
I may be a girl, but I'm not going to claim to share every girls opinion, because we're not a hive mind and the only authority I have is my identity and what's in my pants. I don't speak for women. And all you men, squeaking and squawking about "white knights" and "alienation", certainly don't. I speak for myself, and as myself, I'm going to throw a big freaking fit
now those accusing him of being a white knight, I'm addressing you because you seem more reasonable than the obtuse, dick clowns who are probably too far gone to see reason.
You attack him because he brings up women in the gaming community. Excuse me, not attacking, reprimanding him. Here's the thing, your "don't give them attention" tactic would work, if there was no problem and he was creating an issue where there wasn't one. News flash, there is. Big time. While you spend time displaying your beef with him about talking about women at all, your ignoring the multitude of comments degrading women who dare to touch a controller. Why? Men are allowed to insult us, but not praise us? That doesn't sound fishy to you?
Any girl you meet will probably know that, in joining this community, we're unwelcome from the get go. Games aren't geared towards us. Most of you don't seem to like us, think we're fishing for attention, or something stupid like that (you know how much video games cost? How much a console is? Yeah. Who in their right mind would blow money on something they don't like, for the attention of strangers?). This isn't fighting our battles, he isn't "fighting" anyone. He's being nice to us.
It's something that, to me, says "hey, it's cool to have you here", which is a lot better then being told to "make me a sandwich" or "go lose some weight" or "your ugly". So next time you feel the urge to criticize someone for trying to make another person feel good (which is what your doing), at least have the decency to not dress yourself up as a the voice of reason.
And to those saying "it doesn't matter": yeah, it shouldn't. But since the majority seem to have a beef with my vagina, it does. I don't want to be erased. You don't have to marginalize any piece of yourself to play video games. Because neutral, to you, is male. I may not feel the need to wear my gender on my sleeve, but it's a part of me, who I am and my identity, and my neutral isn't male. I don't want to be treated like a man, I want to be treated like a human being. Besides, why do I have to sit down and be quiet about my gender while there's people running around with tags like "longdong"
To those who's response was "they exist?", the answer is undoubtably yes. Did you know that women make up about 45% of video game players? That "women, age 18 and older, represent a significantly greater population (31%) than boys 17 or younger (19%)"? So yeah, we exist. If you want my gd source, just ask. Or, even better, google it yourself. I'm not making this up.
I'm not here to impede you or entice you. You know what? I'm aren't here for you at all. I'm here to enjoy a game and connect over a game that's totally awesome. I don't need your "approval", I just want you to stop insulting me. There is no guidelines to me to be a gamer, and even if there were, having a dick would not be one of them". You're not the gate keepers.
Sorry if everything not being about you makes you uncomfortable. But I'm sick of being stereotyped and degraded and objectified. Everything about me is not judged by my sex appeal, my weight, or the quality of my skin. Yeah, sure, this looks like a post about appearance, but it's definitely the lesser of two evils. Would you rather be hugged or punched in the face?
A major point to be made is this: you're being douches to someone who was being nice, while ignoring all the bile being spewed. Probably would have been better if the poll hadn't involved the comparing of men and women, but it still wasn't a mockery, it was a question. So if you really think you're a better or superior human being, how about you sit down, read a few responses, and ask who really started flinging around insults. Also ask what you possible hope to gain by being a massive prick through enforcing stereotypes and trying to hurt others with no justification whatsoever.
