What Destiny Requires to be a better online game *Teenager Friendly Edition*

This is a revised and shortened down version of my original post regarding the changes I believe are required to make Destiny a better online PVP experience. This is not a coop related topic; I am not interested in discussing coop vs PVP, or anything in relation to how Destiny is not designed to be a competitive shooter because it is. (Note the link at the bottom) In all honesty the online PVP aspect of this game is what will keep it alive in the long term; once a new Borderlands or the next coop grindfest is released these same coop players will be long gone. [u]More Class Distinction[/u] So far the only real meaningful distinctions are the jump style, grenade and the supers. However we have only gotten access to the game up to level 8 which can be achieved in about 2 hours of online play so at this point in time this is not a valid complaint. [u]Problems with supers[/u] As they are, the super functions in a way in which it is essentially a killstreak but without actually having to get any kills to get one. In a fairy tale land where everyone regardless of how good they are should get an equal chance there is no problem with this. However this is an online shooter where there needs to be a distinction between winners and losers. Bad players only improve by losing and adapting and not by getting their hand held, the exact same as any athlete in any sport. I am not asking for a complete transition to killstreaks as I receive massive amount of hate for even suggesting the word killstreak. An improves system to show you when an enemy has a super via radar for example, and perhaps a slowed down rate of super accumulation for dying i.e. bad play would add much needed balance. [u]Weapon Balancing[/u] The Hand Cannon needs some tweaking as almost nobody online actually uses the weapon. As does the Pulse Rifles, they are slow to fire and have insane recoil. The Auto Rifles are insanely powerful at all ranges despite the fact that the gun stats screen states that it should have a very poor to modest effective range in comparison to say the Scout Rifle. [u] In-air shooting accuracy[/u] This really should be boosted, I am not asking for perfect accuracy but at least make it a viable option. Having this would add much needed variety to the gunplay and would increase the skill cap of the PVP in general. Also considering so much of play is spent in the air it is a little strange that you cannot shoot whilst in the air. [u]Aim assist[/u] The aim assist is mega to the point where it is actually difficult to miss your opponent. I find myself only actually having to do a minor tweak to the aim assist to move my aim from the body to the head. This has been mentioned numerous times in other topics so this is a well-known issue and hopefully Bungie fixes it. [u]Lag[/u] Ever since the Xbox consoles were added to the beta the amount of lag in-game sky-rocketed to unacceptable levels. Hopefully this is just a beta issue and will not be present by release day. [u]Vehicles[/u] The vehicle rant has been removed as we all know Bungie are well aware of this issue and have tweaked this ahead of release day. I await further questions and debates, try not to be too upset by anything mentioned here as everyone has their own opinions and obviously the majority aren’t going to agree with everything I say.   • 1. Add swords, light sabers, hammers and axes as melee weapons. 2. Use the D-Pad to Select "hot" equipped Weapons, Armor spells and Inventory like Skyrim. 3. Auto select FireTeam members in crucible based on Weapons and skills not just levels. 4. Add Halo-like Forge ability to mod arenas.5.             I agree with everything you said except for the Xbox part? Considering that both console run on two completely different servers its impossible that the Xbox made that difference.. Maybe it was the two day maintenance that the Beta had to undergo which 'caused this? or maybe just maybe the mass amount of players in your area which during peak times your connection will slow down, after all we're playing on dedicated servers right?

            • All great ideas. I would say that Maybe increase accuracy while in air but the kick from your weapon should push you back wards.

                Another thing I'd like to see is cross platform gaming ie xbox vs ps then we could see who is really better. Lol ;-D

                • I want to see something to make the game more social..I really don't see where I'm going to meet up with other guardians. The tower was suppose to be this great place full of guardians to meet up with and communicate but it was just like 15 guys doing their own thing for a bit and going(outside of any soccer/volleyball games or dance parties)

                    • The supers have also been a major problem for me. Many times i have found myself leading the game, on a high killstreak, only to be annihilated by a 'noob' that i have only just killed without being able to defend myself. They should definitely reset upon death. Maybe have an upgrade where you can get a head start on building the super to balance the fact that its lost when dead

                      • Surely you realize that supers are the most balanced part of the game. Anyone can use and various supers. They recharge faster by capturing points and killing enemies, things everyone can do. If you dont like your killstreak ending from a super you have three choices: Never capture a point, Engage under the assumption your enemy has a super, or kill as quickly & brutally as you can. Rewarding players for dominating by making supers a killstreak? Okay how about you dominate the match and get to use your super over and over and in exchange, the team with the lower score that gets dominated wins the match but cant use their supers because they cant survive long enough. I'm willing to bet that whenever you died from a super you saw that death coming. When that Titan charged into Maat Mons point A against you and your 2 teammates you saw that super coming, instead of goin for the kill you shoulda got the fk outta dodge. The supers add a dynamic to the game fps rarely have: unpredictability. One can come outta nowhere, some you can see coming but you may be in a position where retreat isn't an option. A swarm of enemies a approaching, you buy your comrades time by using your super for a kamikaze counter attack. See what I mean? Predictable unpredictability. The greatest balance there is. Let winning teams dominate and losing teams have a chance at a comeback. P.S. It does upset me that you tried to compare this to CoD especially since I agree with your points about the hand cannon and vehicles. Destiny is not CoD and nor should it ever be or feel like it. So with all due respect, stop sounding like one of those dumb muthafirecrackers that think a shooter hasnt been done right because it's not CoD. Destiny shouldnt aspire to be anything but Destiny. CoD should aspire to be like Destiny or get back to its authentic roots. After I got the feel of pvp I found Destiny way more entertaining and way more difficult than any CoD game.

                        • Agree about pulse rifles, interceptor fire rate and accuracy, and supers in PvP (but only in PvP. Should be more like a killstreak in Call of Duty, but once you earn it you keep it till you use it. So if you die it is still there.)

                              IOW, make Destiny a COMBINATION of Halo and CoD. Seriously, people. ..and then people complain about why there isn't anything really new or fresh in video games. Its because when someone does give you something new, you insist that they make it like what you are familiar with. ...and then start complaining about how there's nothing new or fresh. Lather.                               • If everyone gets supers with the same frequency then this does not destroy balance at all. Also, the fact that you get supers more frequently if you are playing well indicates that supers work like you think they should. Your argument about supers seems to revolve around how noobs end your killstreaks with them. If killstreaks are now harder to achieve, then getting them now has more meaning. Also, you can kill people who are using supers. I have killed titans, hunters, and warlocks who were using their supers. It felt pretty awesome.

                                    • I'm good with everything but your super argument. They can be avoided or prevented, and so what if someone who "shouldn't" gets some kills? Go get some more yourself and win your match! The super is on a timer (+orbs) anyways, its not like every player is going around spamming ONLY their super every other second. So yeah, fix up everything else and the game is near perf, mechanics wise at least

                                        I totally agree with you on the bit about primary weapons. It was to the point where there was no reason to even use a different weapon type, as the auto rifle surpassed all others in both Accuracy and fire rate.

                                            • I like the killstreak idea for supers. Either do that or significantly decrease the charge time for it so that most players will get to use the super 1-2 times a match (3 if a certain players is having a very good match). I recall being able to use my super 4-5 times on my worst matches. Thats ATLEAST 4-5 kills with the press of a button and there was nothing my opponent could do about it. Now, from a gun balance perspective, hand cannons need to be strengthened and auto rifles need to be nerfed and/or have their recoil adjusted. Those are the major tweaks that need to be made imo. There are a few that are slipping my mind that I have not listed here, too.

                                              • Clearly this post has nothing to do with MLG. What the points in this post are addressing is issues that make the game unfair. Using examples from games which are fair such as Halo (Halo, Bungie, 2007) and Call of duty [COD] (Infinity Ward (2003-) Treyarch (2005-) Sledgehammer Games (2011-).
