PVE is currently lacking and I have some ideas that could make it better

Keep in mind this is all my opinion.As of right now the open world pve in this game is really weak. And what i mean is that there isn't much to do and the stuff that you can do is pretty meh at best. Right now you have beacon quests whose purpose is to give u something to do as you explore but most of them are fetch quests. U also have random events that occur but they don't really happen quite often. While this stuff is really good especially on consoles but you guys(bungie) can do alot more than what we've seen and the game has set up a really good foundation to you can simply improve on what already exists. with that said here are some ideas that might make the pve environment a little more fun(and alive). 1. Beacon quests: there isn't alot to say about these quests. Their purpose is more or less to push players to explore the area and keep them busy doing stuff. However that doesn't mean that this quests have to be all be fetch quests or scouting quests(they all arent btw just 99% of them are). There are some of things that can be done to break up the monotony of beacon quests and i got a few ideas: - hunts : I remember back when i played the alpha that I got a random beacon quest to kill a fallen warlord(huge boss although it was easy to kill) and it was probably one of the most memorable experiences i had in the alpha and it would be really cool to see alot more of this since it already exists. -rescue missions: lets say you open up a beacon where it asks you to go rescue a pilot(or whatever) that has been captured in an enemy camp. Not only this is more engaging that kill x amount of y but also can be made more difficult than what we've been experiencing(which would be great). I could go on about endless varations of random quests but you guys get the idea. Just a little more variety would be nice. 2. Random events: Random events are awesome, no(modern)open world game should exist without random events. they make the world really feel alive and immersive. Bungie has done a really good job at making them(like random devil walker random event) but as of right now their pretty static and they also dont happen as often I would like. -So my number one would advice would be to make these events happen alot more than they do do now. I put in like 3 hours today on explore mode and I only came across 2 random events. They just dont simply happen enough and its a shame. -- chain events: i think chain events would be really awesome and would make the pve a whole lot of fun. Picture this: so a random event pops up where a ship filled with researchers crash lands and you have to protect them from a swarm of fallen who is currently attacking them. Once u finish that event another pops up where it asks you to escort the surviving researchers to finish their mission which is to inspect an artificat located within a hive ship some odd distance away. In doing so players spend the entire event following said reasercher(s) to the site fighting off any baddies along the way. Once u get to the site u complete the event and another one pops asking u to protect the reasearcher from all the Hive zombies as he takes a better look at the artifact. Once that is done another event occurs in which the researcher(s) gets infected with artifact(WHO KNEW) and turns into a hive ogre boss(es) which the players have to kill. wouldn't that be cool? 3.Exploration missions/bounties/rewards: For the players who love to explore the maps it would be really cool to give out quests/rewards for doing so. Lets say there are a number of beacons scattered across the entire map and if a player finds all them he gets a reward of some sort(weapons, armor, skins, coins, whatever). So these are some ideas that i think would make the exploration mode more of fun immersive. As it stands right now there isn't alot of stuff to do and the stuff that you can do either doesn't happen enough(random events) or pretty boring(kill x guys). I also know that this is just the beta so these things that i mentioned might actually exist in the game(like kill x boss beacon mission). I really love this game and I hope this stuff does exist and if not hopefully Destiny 2 would impliment this stuff.

  • 1) I agree with most of this. More various events would be fun. 2) I dunno if there is long wait between events. There was bounties that involved doing so many events. So what I did was stay in one area until event happened, got done that way. Sadly if you are constantly going from place to place you'll miss most events. So I do think events can be ran better somehow but I don't know if shorter intervals is the answer.

  • I do agree with your ideas for more variety in the beacon quests, but I'm pretty content with the Hive vs. Fallen war at sunset :p

  • PVE is good, but it needs something like this to be perfect more variety in missions (these scout and analysis missions are pretty boring while the hunt missions are fine) and more public events

    I actually rather like these ideas. Chain events are a lot of fun. Of course these things could all be in the full game, and I hope they are. I'm just going to point this out, but the argument "this is beta" shouldn't just be thrown at people who have actual constructive feedback. Save that for people who just keep saying the game is to short.

      • go play skyrim... remember its a FPS first and formost not a MMO... hate to but your bubble and everyone else's but all games ahev the same shit grind/kill x nubmer of y/gather shit in their own games respective means... deal with it.

        • I stayed in the same section of the map for hours. It was perfect for farming the drop ships. Anyway, public events happened every 30 mins like clockwork. Where i was, it was always a devil walker.

          • All I can say is its the beta, so I feel like there will be more substance in the full game. I personally got bored with explore a lot faster than I thought I would.

            PvE is fine. No changes needed Frequency of drop ships need to be faster. Sparrows shouldn't be invincible at on demand at any moment in the open world. Talk about silver platter

            • Seems reasonable, Id like more variety of the quests of course, obviously there is limitations but Id like the idea of all that sort of stuff. There is a lot that can be added onto in the PVE, so hopefully Bungie, as I suspect they are, will consider much more additions. Id like to add, Id like an escort VIP mission where you need to keep a member of your fire team alive and run him through a gauntlet of opposing enemies who specifically target them.

                • These are all really good ideas. I just wanna say though I played yesterday for about 2 hours and came across 2 different events that I found really cool. One was a public event where you had to download some data from a crashed fallen ship and while your doing that waves of fallen tried and got it back. It was really cool. The other one wasn't really a public event ( it didn't even get all dark and do the announcement ) but a little message came up ( where it says blah blah points/dances/waves at so and so) and it said "there is a group of pike riders near by!" I didn't think it was anything so I kept doing my mission. A couple minutes later about 4 fallen came riding by on pikes and me an every other online player there hunted them down and stole their pikes. Just saying, pikes are the coolest thing to drive ever. They are just like ghosts on halo. Except faster. It also had guns on it which is awesome. So I just wanted to say that. I agree with everything you said though, especially the chain events. I would love to do that. I just thought these little events I had were really cool and different from the devil walker event. Which I have done like 5 times already. Hahaha well see you star side!!

                  • PvE is only lacking in difficulty in the beta. If Bungie is going to pull any more surprises it should be a more highly difficult strike, or maybe even a Raid.

                      I just wish they didn't go with the Iron Sights mechanic...I hate having to push down aim EVERY SINGLE ENCOUNTER, just seems like a silly trend in shooters these days.

                      • 1. If your looking for some good quests you should try story missions or maybe a strike.... I think that's what they're there for. 2. Have you run into the same random event twice? Not nearly as exciting the second time around. I'd prefer the random events stay limited to keep players engaged in completing them. If the same events pop up too frequently I'm sure we would just ignore them before long, which in turn would ruin it for that one player who has never completed it but will never get help. 3. Have you found all the dead ghosts? Opened all 5 golden chests? Come across every cave? Ran through the level 20 enemies just to see what is behind them? I had a blast exploring. Just my thoughts. I have put over 20 hours into just my hunter and I'm quite content with what the beta has to offer in regards to PVE. (as well as PVP of course)

                        • It'd be cool if the beacon could do something like a defense mission. So you get indicated a location to defend a supply point or something similar? Or a mission where you have to carry cargo from one point to another whilst enemies are dropped at certain distances

                          They still have the Hunt missions. Did a lot of those during my exploration time, great way to farm Spinmetal. The beacon missions they have so far are: 1. Hunt Missions- kill a high value target in a certain location. They even have one that is an actual boss instead of a regular mob. 2. Kill X Enemies Missions- straight forward "Sweep & Clear" and "Cosmodrone Cordon" missions. 3. Gather Missions- You kill certain enemies, they drop stuff. Really easy in groups. 4. Scout Missions- You go to a certain location and you stand there for a while to "scout" the area. 5. Scan Missions- You go to a certain area and your Ghost scan it for information, very similar to Scout Missions. I believe those are the ones they have available right now (please correct me if I am wrong) and I certainly wouldn't complain if they added a few more missions types, but keep in mind that a minimal portion of the population will probably actually do a lot of exploration missions and of those even fewer will do them in every area. Most will wait until they level up completely before they start venturing out and exploring. As far as public events go, I wouldn't want to be constantly interrupted by them, I think maybe a little bit higher frequency would be nice, but definitely not too much. I do like the idea of chained events too.

                          Yes. Very, very good ideas. I have some to add, though, because nobody reads my topics. lol. not. :'( Anyway. 1. Immersive Battlefields (Both PVE and PVP) Player controlled battlefields. Imagine this. The Nova Bomb leaving fire on the ground that does damage if walked on. The Titans smash knocking through a wall, opening a path or finding a secret. The Golden Gun smashing a weak point and causing things to collapse. Perhaps toppling a pillar, causing it to smash or hinder enemies, or bringing down a enemy scout ship. Or maybe, if there is the possibility of driving bigger vehicles, (a tank, for instance) and being able to break things with its shots, or maybe even leaving a small hole if shot at dirt. It would make the world seem way more immersive and inspire treasure hunting if secrets could be found for it. 2. Collectables Missions that have you treasure hunting. Say you here of a crucible ship crashing in the north of old Russia. And over months of you playing the game, you find the cargo of that ship scattered in random places around Russia. Find them all, return to the crucible, and earn a prize, or maybe a achievement/trophy.

                          • I agree 100% with what you're saying. I understand it's Beta and its only less than 10% of the game but I think this is one of the many things Bungie would like to hear about as well. We can't just assume there will be more variety added later. We might as well make it a topic of discussion. If in the final game we have more to do then that's fantastic. However if we dont to say anything about the lack of verity in the PVE and they assume it's fine, we'll have an issue. I like your ideas. Hopefully they already have plans to expand on the points you made. I'm also kind of concerned that Old Russia might be the only explorable location on earth. If there was mention of more I missed that news.
