Why dancing does not belong. (Opinion)

Every Destiny gamer I have come across loves the dancing mechanic. Using it as a "distraction" in the crucible, or a celebration at the end of a successful strike, etc. (Reminder: This is an OPINION. This is not a personal attack on you for enjoying Destiny's dancing mechanic) ...But for me, this mechanic is a bastardization of what should be a serious game. Maybe it's my tendency to inject myself into my in-game characters, or maybe it's just how I have grown a distaste for the overused dancing mechanics in MMORPGs, but this dancing seems exceptionally out of place within the world of Destiny. I know we have had, and will continue to have endless hours of fun with Destiny and the amazing worlds they create, but every time I'm wandering around Old Russia or the Tower and see a Guardian dancing... I am pulled out of my absorption into the game, and am made to feel like this is some sort of silly social club. The universe of Destiny is undoubtedly dark, inching towards hopeless if the Guardians fail at their duty... Yet some Guardians decide to have random dance parties on top of Lord Shaxx. It doesn't make sense to me. [roleplay] In a world that is so intense, with comrades so driven by duty, honor and survival, it feels strange to me that dancing would be considered at all. You, my fellow guardians, feel free to dance, but you won't see me hanging around too much or dancing in the face of the darkness coming to crush our city. I'll see you out on the frontier. If Shepard can find time to hit up Chora's Den and Omega in the midst of the war to end all wars.... We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind Cause your friends don't dance And if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine Say, we can go where we want to A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Because you're one far behind

      • If 3 people or so danced few and far between it would be alright....but knowing the community of gamers on these forums, everyone and their mothers will be strutting like a chicken on the battlefields and especially in the tower. I guess children will be children. For me it really ruins the experience. Like someone who over uses a funny joke. Timing is everything and clearly everyone thinks they are a comedian.

We used to listen to this song everyday while on patrol in TQ Iraq. But I don't know you probably never been to war. The constant high level of stress is hard to adjust to. So sometimes just letting go and making the best of the situation is all you really can do for morale. So keep the dance. Edit- Plus are pet Iraqi pigeons. Scorpions (rock) vs Rats (paper) vs camel spider ( scissors). Animal fighting the whole Rock Paper Scissors are pretty much odds of winning. Kept us busy. These are all tools to distract you from reality and the kind of hell hole you are in. P.s. Killed 250+ flys in 12 hours over there personal record numbers. -Scarface

There is actually strong evidence that humans ability to laugh is an evolved response designed to help overcome fear and anxiety. By extending this logic we see that the ability to dance and have fun would be an imperative in this kind of dire situation in order to make the hopelessness of the situation more bearable. If you ever heard the phrase, " I had to laugh to keep from crying," you now know what it means. So if dancing is making it hard for you to role play it isn't because dancing is out of place, but that you're role playing any experience for which you have no frame of reference and are instead projecting what you think it would be like. Edit: this is not an attack on you, but rather an attempt at eduction in order to better your RPing adventures.

It's an MMO. do u have any idea how many serious MMOs have dance emotes? look at it this way, even with the apocalypse happening people need to take time to rest, return to base, and unwind. many people do this by dancing and partying. It's kind of symbolic really. People party and slack off (and play videogames) even at military bases. as for people dancing in the cosmodrome or the crucible. you can't stop gamers from fooling around. if they can't dance they will teabag, melee their teammates....etc.

Maybe the only movie to survive the apocalypse was Footloose... Maybe the Tower outlawed dancing and the had to go across the tracks to dance. Maybe one extraordinary guardian quoted the the sole remaining bible ,written in braille, and then the Traveler was like "Ok, you can dance but hell I better not see any twerking." Maybe its time... • Dancing is awesome, enjoyable, a celebration of success, and its quite hilarious after a series of seriously shooting and kiln the crap out of things. its like after a long day of hard work, you just want to sit down and enjoy a fresh glass of water or pint or whatever suits yah fancy. So I disagree with your post, buts like you said, an opinion. I just kind of think the facial expressions while dancing is quite robotic though lol. Anyways, just find people with same viewpoint I guess, and form a danceless fireteam. problem solved.now enjoy your day, weekend, week. :)

                  • I tend to agree, mainly because I'd much rather bind consumables to the d-pad. I shouldn't have to open my inventory to use an ammo pack. I feel like they sacrificed some playability to put the emotes in.

                  • Perhaps you are looking at dancing in the wrong light. You say it has no place in this dark and hopeless world. I disagree, the ability to dance shows that the Guardians have not lost hope, but that they hold on to it. The energetic movements of the Guardians showcase that all is right in the world, if only for a moment. So, I view the dancing as a reminder to the hope that we once had, and the hope that we shall have again. TL;DR Dancing shows that the Guardians still have hope in such a hopeless time.

                    • I prefer sitting down. Especially in the crucible. Killing someone as the game ends and just sitting down next to them is much more satisfying.

According to your personal view, people around our REAL world shouldn't dance either...thought about that?

                      • I couldn't agree more! I'm the type of player that takes their game for the experiences they are, and in a world of perpetual doom, dancing is the last thing on my mind! I wish it was an optional emote in the right setting. Like if there was an area for just dancing, like a club. Otherwise we are the elite, not children...

                          • I so feel you. I only use the dancing to enter third person so I can get a better view around me! But if I'm bored and want a laugh the dancing is there for that. The d pad could have been used for some more serious weaponry wheels or something, but this usage is pretty interesting too. Maybe they'll release something later that'll let you swap out what the d pad does if you're not into the social movements.
