What killed online chat in consoles? I used to be able to hop on any game and a lot of people would be talking, but now whenever I play a game, it's all silent. I feel that Call of Duty kind of killed it, because whenever I'd get on the game it would be constant trash talking. I generally play without my microphone, so I don't get insulted.

Adding more questions,
What year did you start playing online games, what was your first game, and did talk a lot then?
I start playing Xbox Live in late November 2007. I bought a 360 specifically for Halo 3. When that game came out I used to use my mic all the time. I don't remember being matched with blatantly rude people. I'd say that the time I made most of my Xbox Live friends. I, also, used to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. COD had such a different culture back then. Games, weren't filled with general trash talking and racism. I made a lot friends on that game, too, because of the different culture. Lobbies felt more social.

A game didn't kill it.. The people killed it.
