When asked about Forge in Destiny, DeeJ has commented that Bungie is not yet ready to talk about the ways that players will be able to leave their mark in Destiny's world. A map editing feature may or may not make its way into the final game, but rest assured, if it isn't included, it won't be because the folks at Bungie are afraid of some players doing a bad job at forging, that seems like a very selfish and silly reason to want a feature to not be included.

  • I would say, having seen probably the best Halo hacks in Forge, that this is precisely the kind of tangential stuff that deserves its own game. I've hung out with the Gaurdian Radio crew, and played Forge stuff that's off the wall. Especially the one where you have various vehicles on a giant slide and spartans try to whack those moles. Great fun, creative and side-splittingly hilarious - but absolutely nothing to do with the Halo Universe. An add-on, a distraction. And if there were more important features lacking in the main title, a complete waste of time and energy. Destiny, more than just about any other game besides Skyrim, is awesome because of its clarity of vision and the need for everything present to make conceptual sense. It would blow my mind to see a company ballsy enough to fire Marty O'Donnell, compromise that vision for shits and giggles.

    I understand meeting a deadline so the projected result exceeds expectations. A separate game?! To much competition. DLC would work better. That does sound like it would take a long time to code , and take time to integrate. Who knows ?! With or without that ever happening the alpha was flawless. I made plenty of tracks with what was provided anyways. Oh and I challenge you to a race ;)

  • "Because we've always done it that way" is the absolute lamest excuse on the planet. The only one I can think of that's lamer is "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Well, actually no. I take that back. Forge seemed like a good idea at the Halo time because it did, for a lot of good reasons, not the least of which was the imminent boredom inherent the small maps of the early FPS generations. When Beaver Creek and Hang Em High were as good as it got in online multiplayer, Forge was not only a good idea, but a necessary idea. Now the idea is as stale as Fred Flintstone's baloney sandwich. On the other hand, I find it highly dubious that Bungie would build a Forge, some dumbed down version of Grognok, before they build a PC version of the whole game. Or is money just water? And really if Forge is such a good idea, why not just build a game around that idea? Oh wait, that kinda like Fracture [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBm4SYnYWdk[/url]. It seems to me that you can have a good shooter with immersive worlds, or you can have that with a kindergarten fingerpaint section too. But you can't have the theme of Destiny and a god game too. Because Forge without the ability to deform territory, build mountains, trees & shrubs, skyboxes, rivers and weather, is just weak, weak, weak. What are you going to have Forge let you rearrange rusted cars and space shuttles and beached ships? Ooh. Worshiping the past is safe. Snuggling in with your old XBox-only pals and feeding them exactly what they want is cool. But that's not world domination.

    I just watched that.... Game. I'm sincerely apologizing ahead of time, but was that a college project? The mastering of the final audio output was completely unbalanced. How many db's were those bullets vs the music. The graphics are dark and cookie cutter. The motion is clunky. I didn't see anything groundbreaking (lol) besides that. The transitions from all of the "options", and controls associated to complete an action in game were rigid and disconnected. Yes I realize that it was old. It was played on a 360. The idea is original, but it has a LOOONNGGGG way to go. Your health meter is so small it would take a while to learn the sweet spot between life and death. Your health recharges really fast when there is not enough combat to balance that out. The minimap on the bottom right should be an option to move to a different part of the screen. I've never favored looking up, down, then up again. I could swear the music was done in fruity loops with the standard presets. You can even hear a pattern start and stop. The gun fights remind me of a 3d contra, except on this you don't see the bullets. Maybe it's just me but the grenade seems to hit a value equivalent to an invisible wall and just drop?!. I've also watched him re load many times and twice he dropped a clip. I still can't figure out that inconsistency. I know I sound like someone who is the biggest douche bag in the world and I acknowledge that, but I wouldn't even play that for free. Thanks for sharing it though. I always love checking out new games. :)
