Yeah I Was Right About Forge
About a year ago, I listened to a lot of people whining about Forge. Yeah Forge. I said to hell with Forge and to Hell with forgers. Bungie are brilliant game designers and I don't want their creation cluttered up with amateur hour. That's the way I said it, that's the way I want it. The only possible concession I made was to let forgers have some piece of a moon of Saturn or something, but not Earth, or the Moon or any of the regular maps. Go play griffball in Halo 5, weenies.
Now the alpha is over and everybody is breathless about how spectacular Destiny looks. And not a peep about Forge. Good. I told you Destiny needs Forge like the Mona Lisa needs a tongue stud. Now all we need is DeeJ to stick a fork in the argument. Please.

What I'm hoping for from forge is an evolution. Not the same version that was in reach, but a brave new version of the creation tool that has brought so many people so much joy. First let me elaborate on the mode for every mood point. Destiny is already full of modes that are fun and interesting, but what happens when the inspiration that the lore and the game play that the game provides is overflowing within the player. When you see a weapon or ability that makes you want to create a map that showcases it. When you go through a Strike that gives you an idea of a new type of experience. In short, when you are in the mood to create, you would have a place to go in Destiny. All of these new creations of players will inject new life into the game. We will truly always have something to do. The experiences we have won't be limited by the time and imagination of the people at Bungie. Hopefully we will be able to create any range of experiences. The forge in Destiny would not be merely a rehash of Halo's forge, because, as many wise people have stated, Destiny is a different game. Hopefully this new forge mode would allow people to create their own raids and strikes as well as multiplayer maps. It could allow players to place enemies and provide rewards. I have a dream...

Please please please no forge, unless nothing can be gained from it ( gear or loot ) then I think it's a great idea

5 RepliesIt's been confirmed for a while that Destiny will not have a map editor at launch. Bungie is definitely considering adding it later, though. Don't hate forgers just because you can't use it.

3 RepliesIt doesn't really fit into the lore and world of destiny now maybe for multiplayer sure custom maps are always fun for that but nothing beyond multiplayer.

I didn't even know there was a debate. Maybe because I've been dormant for so long. But I'm cool with no forge being in destiny, to me that's more Halo's thing (and 343 are butchering it).

If Bungie allow a stripped back version of their engine to create multiplayer maps and community missins chains and free roam environments, I say more power to them. One condition I would add to that though is all maps, missions and free roam have to pass bungie muster, so thier design team have to go over them and approve them. Other games have had great success with these kinds of things. I wouldn't expect a dev tool anytime soon though, possibly 18month to 2 years after launch, about the same time we can expect the second installment.

8 RepliesWow, superiority complex much? I have never been a supporter of the Forge in Destiny. It didn't seem like it would fit. However, the reasons you just gave are arrogant and idiotic. There were some great Forge maps built, and the assumption that everything would be amateur hour is ridiculous. Some of the most popular maps & game modes were developed based on community ideas implemented in the Forge. So yeah, "It has worked before" as the the most basic argument is still a valid argument, whether you like it or not. Also, Bungie has not completely said no to the idea of bringing in a Forge-like component. They have even hinted at players being able to mark their mark on the world, which could mean many different things, along with the basic assumption. Personally, I think that Destiny 1 will not have any kind of Forge like component. I also don't think it will have any player trading component either. But this is a game that can be built upon. And it is very plausible that a Forge-like component could be implemented down the road. It would simply be added as a different game mode, like the Crucible is separate from the main part of the game.

When asked about Forge in Destiny, DeeJ has commented that Bungie is not yet ready to talk about the ways that players will be able to leave their mark in Destiny's world. A map editing feature may or may not make its way into the final game, but rest assured, if it isn't included, it won't be because the folks at Bungie are afraid of some players doing a bad job at forging, that seems like a very selfish and silly reason to want a feature to not be included.

You got a whole huge community to go up againt and I say let the forging began! Honestly one of the best things about halo was downloading ppls created maps and teabagging some noobs on it

Forge has been taken from Bungie. It most likely won't be present in Destiny.
