The only thing changed was the trending sort. That sort has been broken because of a database issue for a while, and this maintenance fixed the issue... by editing the metadata all 3.78 million topics in the database to erase the influence of the bug. You should notice Trending being much better now. For those that don't know, Trending is supposed to be a mix of Latest and Highest Rated. It shows you generally the latest topics, but if those topics have been liked, it gives them a little extra push to sort higher. Until recently, though, it was not very good at fading old topics out of the view - now, it is greatly biased toward newer stuff, making it much more useful, especially on high traffic forums like #Destiny.
