Comic fans: Where do you start?

If you were to recommend a good place to start getting into comics, either Marvel or DC, where would you recommend? I'm talking specific issues. Also, do you buy them in a store, or mostly through downloads?

I got into comics by getting The Walking Dead Compendium One, with the collector's edition of the game. Shortly after, I bought compendium two, a few smaller paperbacks, then I started visiting my local comic store to get the issues that weren't collected in volumes yet. Then before I knew it, I was getting new The Walking Dead issues monthly and I slowly got into other comic series. It all depends on what you're into and if you'd rather read paperback collections of old comics or get the issues as they come out. Both DC & Marvel relaunched their main comics, with new #1's, within the past few years. DC did The New 52 in 2011 and Marvel did Marvel Now in 2012, as well as All-New Marvel Now this year. Also, comics don't have to be about superheroes, publishers like Image, Dark Horse, IDW, or Boom! have a lot of good comics as well. I would say just don't think too hard about it, jump into a comic that interests you, and before you know it, you'll have a long box full of issues.
