Plenty of MMO's use sub models and do well therefore your point is invalid.
Why don't you go and bitch at MS and SONY if you want the LIVE/PS+ paywall lifted. You don't get special treatment for not being a PC user.
Plenty of MMO's use sub models and do well therefore your point is invalid.
It's not invalid at all. Try reading the title again.
-
Could care less about you crappy holier-than-thou PC gamers. I'm talking about console users so your point is invalid. Very few console users will buy ESO because we already have to pay the fee to buy the game and also for online services. By adding on a 15$ a month subscription fee, many console users will not buy ESO and it will fail.
-
Xbox Live and PSN+ aren't monthly subscriptions...
-
I don't know about PSN+ but XBL can be set up as a monthly subscription. I did it that way for a long time just because I usually didn't have $60 to spend on it all at once as I would usually buy a game instead. So I just paid $10 a month (I know it costs more in the long run) and set it up so it draws from my account automatically.
-
Oh. I get money for christams and that's it, so I spend it all at once and save some dough I usually don't buy that many games but 2014 is different because I need a solid install base for my Xbox One... Then I can calm down a bit :/
-
Understandable. I just had a hard time putting that much down all at once even if it is a better deal over all. Just finally got the one year subscription this time around.
-
It's only the cost of one video game...
-
Yeah but when I have enough for a game sitting around I tend to get a game instead. I only get to buy a few games a year as my money goes to rent, car payment, gas, insurance, being married tax, improvements on our living space, beer, food, beer, really expensive beer, pet bills, etc. Especially if I've already paid my $10 subscription fee for the month.
-
Understood.
-
Did you even look at what I said? I use both PC and console so stow that "holier than thou" shit right -blam!-ing now. ZeniMax/Bethesda have no control over LIVE/PS+ paywalls that's up to MS and SONY to change, not them.
-
The online "paywalls" don't bother me, it's that they are making us pays subscription to play even when they know we already are paying for online services and the game itself. And also you didn't even address consoles you just told me to go complain to MS and sony for having to pay online fees. I don't care that I have to pay online fees.
-
it's that they are making us pays subscription to play even when they know we already are paying for online services and the game itself.
Do Zenimax/Bethesda make money from the XBL/PSN+ sub fee? No, they don't. Which is why they're charging for the monthly fee.
-
They are making money from the discs and digital buys though and any future DLC.
-
I know that. But that still doesn't mean they don't want the money from the fee.

-
Why don't you go and bitch at MS and SONY if you want the LIVE/PS+ paywall lifted.
I would rather pay $50/$60 a year which allows me to play every game online than paying $180 a year just to play one game online.
-
Edited by Axdinosaurx: 1/4/2014 11:54:34 PMYou are more than welcome to do so. No one is forcing you to do anything. My point is that Bethesda and ZeniMax have no control over permissions on xbox or playstation. That is up to MS and SONY to change not them.
-
Wrong! At least on the PS4. Some games don't require PS+ for you to play online, I think Planetside 2 is going to take that approach.
-
Ugh, why don't you people actually read what I write before you reply? I swear if you actually read first you'd realize your comment has nothing to do with what I said. For the illiterate, Planetside 2 gets a pass because it was developed by Sony. Zenimax/Bethesda is a separate publisher/dev and their online features will be restricted by the PS+ paywall.
-
No, it has been confirmed that ESO won't require PSN+ or Xbox Live Gold to work. Although you'll probably have it anyway, so therefore the point is mute...
-
They do have control over the subscription. I don't mind paying the Live fee but subscription is just too much.
