Will Halo 5 Revive the Halo Series?

I think we've all realized the sad truth by now, 343 Industries has singlehandedly destroyed the success of the Halo franchise with their monstrosity of a game, Halo 4. Yet now there may be some hope. With a new generation of consoles comes new games, and with the upcoming Halo 5 game for Xbox One, Halo may have a reborn. Well, either that or the game is a bust and Halo is abandoned and forgotten in the blissful past of the first decade of the 21st century and never played again. What do you think Halo 5's effect will be on the Halo series as a whole? Will it save Halo from the destruction 343 wrought upon it last year?

  • I mean, you are kind of talking about Halo 5 as if it is going to be created by a different company? 343 is still creating the next halo game and we have to have faith that they will learn from their mistakes. Halo 4 was not the greatest game, but I do believe that 343 will take the proper precautions and pump out a fantastic game that hopefully can also be competitive! But my heart is set on Destiny for competitive play - Ninja

  • There is no way to save Halo multiplayer. Only way would be to remove sprint, remove AAs, remove ordinance, remove JIP, add in visible ranks, go back to arena style games, etc. There is no way 343 does all those things and even if one of those things is not fixed Halo5 will fail.

  • Sadly, I think the Halo series is going down hill. Not because Halo 4 sucked but because the series itself is really old.

Halo isn't a dead franchise its dead in the hearts of many hardcore veteran fans including myself. The call of duty influence won't allow arcade-like shooters to be as encouraged as ud like. It's business, bungies contract ended at the peak of halos potential as a franchise. With the new generations and tech, halos standard formula will not fit in with the overall money making audience. Id be willing to bet bungie knew it was time to let halo go and not renew the contract. Halo Reach was as far as they could push the halo formula without breaking it and they knew sticking to it would end up with them left behind or pissing off their fans like 343 has done.

Who knows it could be good or it could suck ass, but honestly I doubt it would revive the series thanks to M$

    • If 343i keeps going the way they've been going with the story, honestly, no. A lot of the people who hate Halo 4 and 343i hate it because of the god-awful direction the storyline has taken and it shitting all over established canon. 343i might fix the multiplayer in Halo 5 (I really don't think peoples' perception on that will change either in all honesty >_> Me personally, I'm more or less fine with Halo 4's MP and couldn't care less about it, just not something I'm interested in playing, the other Halos didn't really interest me too much either), but unless they get the story back on track and keep it in tune with canon, then they're only going to continue bleeding out the series and seeing fans leaving it. And considering that all they've done is continue to screw up when it comes to the lore and the series......I have absolutely no hope for Halo 5 whatsoever, it's only going to continue as it has been.

    • I talked with this with Admirals a short while back. And I actually think they can pull it off this time around. I mean, story wise they did pretty damn good with Halo 4, but they needed to work a bit on their accessibility in terms of lore, and they needed to make the experience fun. Mind you, Halo 4 did have some fun bits, but overall, they need to smooth things out more. Personally, I think I have little to no right to talk about multiplayer, as I missed the era of Halo 2, and missed a chunk of 3 as well. But it's been in decline since Reach, and it's too much of a minefield for them to traverse. Some people want Halo 2/3 multiplayer, some people want change, and everything else in between. Personally, if they can revive customs to they way they used to be, I'll be happy. But there's a big problem, and it's the fact Halo is moving towards a yearly release. Let's go back here, and I'll ask all of you a question. Do you remember the gaps in time between CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and ODST? There were large gaps of time in between the release of each game, and their respective owners knew this. So what did they do? Tried to make the game as fun and long lasting as they could. You had all these years to experience all these things. I put hundreds of hours into each aspect of every Halo game, campaign, multiplayer, customs, you name it. But this is the problem Halo faces now. And I don't believe it's 343's decision to make it a yearly release. But this is the issue that comes up. The original trilogy spanned all together the period of around 10 years or so. And now, we're already well underway into Halo 5, halfway through the new trilogy, in approximately two years. This therefore means that 343 has to design each new Halo with about a year's or two lifespan in mind. Why would you pour the utmost best of your creativity and resources into a game when you'll be making another one in a years time? That wouldn't make any sense. And it would be impossible to continue to top your game if the first one you made was the utmost best you could make it at the time. This, truly, is what's killing Halo, and games in general now. The industry gets faster and faster, and as a result, quality gets left behind in favour of simply producing more at a faster rate. And this is what we should all truly be throwing our stones at. I'm 100% positive, if 343 didn't have to pump Halo out as a yearly release type deal, and they actually had the time to craft the best experience they could, then the entire game as a whole would be great. They could think and craft every game on their own time, and truly refine it into something great. But they need time. Not, plop a Halo game out with a year's lifespan or two while starting work on the next game right after. That's how you burn yourself out, and overall, the experience for everybody is lessened in the process. The studio wears down faster, the fans get less enjoyment and time down on the game than they would if they had to wait several years, and everything is cut down to mediocrity. So can you give 343 a break, open your eyes, and start pointing fingers at the real issue? Granted, they aren't perfect, but they'd stand a much better chance at doing their thing if MS wasn't breathing down their throat so much, pulling on too many strings for their own good.

        • Nope. There are absolutely no signs of it other than Franky, the one who lied to us all dozens of times, telling us the team learned from their mistakes. Their forum and the current state of it is a perfect example of why I'm right, along with the fact that they keep adding different perks to Halo 4, which goes to show that they're still dedicated to the Call of Halo dream experience. No way they're going back to classic. The franchise is over, everyone go home and live your lives. It was fun while it lasted.

          • They would have to forget that Halo 4 ever existed. Start completely from scratch (or Halo 2/3). If they started Halo 5 by building on Halo 4 they already failed.

          • It already was revived with Halo 4. 343 SAVED the franchise after Bungie destroyed it with the Reach abomination.

Who knows? Say 343i gets their head out of the gutter that is their massive ego and bull headed personality. Say they were to make a traditional Halo game that stays true to the style of Bungie. Say they actually take the fanbase's valid and rational complaints into consideration and deal with them swiftly and thoroughly. Say they actually have a public beta so that they actually release a polished product on release day. In that case, Halo 5 may have a chance.

              • Halo 4 ushered in a new age for the franchise, one that was already shunned before it's birth by being not created by Bungie. Remember that it was also the first from a group of developers in a new environment; it takes time for them to get settled and better grasp what process of development works for them. With each new title will come a better experience; they have to start from the ground up, not at the level Bungie had brought the franchise up to. While Halo(5) may not be the greatest Halo game, I have faith it will be a step in the right direction.
