Whst is the strange orb that the Fallen Captain is holding?

The Fallen Captain in the concept art seems to be holding some sort of Artifact. I'm curious as to what that is and how it is related to the story. Also, I've seen some hint of it in the ViDoc "O Brave New World" when they are doing a mocap session. It looks like they're exchanging some sort of sphere. Anyone have any ideas on what this is? My friend says that it looks like the Traveler a bit. Could it be a small form of power from the Traveler? Or maybe it's something else like the mysterious force that tried to stomp us out and ending the Golden Age? Just thought I'd talk about it.

  • I have a new theory. Maybe it's a Vanguard. From what I can gather, it sounds like the Vanguards are some sort of recon for planets. Hence the "Awaiting reports from Vanguard" message we see from the "Welcome to the Frontier" hub. Also, those Vanguards could be the small orbs that you see in the first picture of the Warlock shown here. Maybe it's similar to what lucaf said, except the Fallen have captured a Vanguard and are trying to take its information. Just a theory.

    • its spherical, so clearly it must be a miniature traveler. right. a similar sphere was in the concept art with the fallen and spider tank, I think they are probably just drones or something. the captain is probably just accessing its data.

    • Maybe it's something akin to a battle map or battle log, and after killing a fallen captain you can obtain it to find new enemy locations or secret loot the captain may have hid! :O
