Here's an idea to throw around

Well, there's always people repeating topics in the Underground, and that's understandable, seeing that a lot of these people are new And we all hear peoples cries for a search function, much like how the old worked, as well as a bunch of other sites But I think that if you include the search function, it, like The Chief in Halo 2, should have some new "tools" One of these, which is a pretty brilliant idea if you ask me, is that when you make a thread, the preview button acts more than just seeing how the result will be when posted. The preview button now acts as a search button, and will alert the user if the topic has been posted before or recently, showing the actual day on it's last occurrence and the page number it's currently on at the time of posting For example, I'll use a topic with the base theme of "Favorite Red Versus Blue Quote" Now, users might get creative and make the subject "Famous attributions from the popular web series about SPARTAN's in Blood Gulch"; I used that example knowing that no one would probably ever do that, but you get the idea So, what can do to get around this problem? Google, in my opinion, is the best web search tool available online, and it's because they have a way with words in such an effective way So the point of this is really asking the question: Could you make something like this happen? Can you make it so, when you hit the preview button, it'll tell you if your topic, or something similar to it, has been posted lately, so as to tone down the "already been talked about buddy" responses that that person will likely get from the other, been-here-for-a-while, users. Is it possible for Bungie to work with Google, or actually MSN now that I think about it, to make the preview serve a dual purpose? This is something that I don't think has ever been done, on any forum that I've seen myself Some people, which is inevitable basically, will continue to post things, even if they know that it's been posted before. But I'm pretty sure that the majority of the people who post repeated topics had no idea that BillyBob (example) posted the same thing last Tuesday. I mean, everytime you see a repeated topic, look at the date that that user joined, and it's no coincidence that these people are all new. It's all in the theme of suggestion of course, but I think you can easily see the benefits of having something like this being implemented into the forums. And hey, Bungie can do anything, so why not mess around with this idea and see if it sticks? Thanks everybody; and I mean this: Keep up the good work Bungie; you guys are doing some really great things for the gaming world [Edited on 5/19/2004 8:00:22 PM]
