|OT| and Bungie.net

So I like many people, frequent the NeoGAF forums. They have a system or, "Member Etiquette", which stops people from posting the same thread over and over again. They have "|OT|" threads, "|OT|" meaning 'Official Thread'. These are threads that keep all discussion for said topic in the one place. Take the Halo 4 threads in The Flood as an example. There are many threads about the same thing. Now, if we had one "official" thread for this topic, it would keep the forums from having the same threads created over and over again and it would also keep the discussion in the one place where it can flow and people can discuss. We kind of already have something like this in Durado's Title Thread. Now, obviously |OT| threads would only be used for major topics such as major games, events and maybe even news. So what would make a thread "official"? Like on the GAF, the |OT| would have to contain relevant information to help people learn about said topic and would have to be structured in a particular way. It can't just be someone saying "Guys, this is the official thread! Post here!" Just a thought. I personally don't really have a stand on whether a |OT| system would benefit Bungie.net. Just thought it might be interesting to discuss. Lastly, If you're against this idea, can you think of any other substitute which might see the decline in repeat topics? B.net is also structured differently than GAF. Even they have to watch out with too many megathreads. Halo 4 is a hot topic to discuss right now. It's the exact same with Skyrim (which has died down), Mass Effect (which has died down), CoD (which has died down for now), rock vs rap, ponies, and Justin Bieber (which have all died down except when someone is trying to get a rise out of people). I don't get why this board is so hung up on restricting what people can do on this website. Admittedly, I've become more lax over the last two years but that's more to do with my interpretation of the rules and letting things slide as long as they aren't malicious but I don't think I've ever advocated restrictions just for te sake of restricting something. Internet's gonna internet. [Edited on 10.09.2012 5:19 AM PDT]
