Halo 2 Playlist Update & Stat Reset
Tonight is the night for the long awaited Halo 2 Xbox Live Matchmaking Playlist update and ranking reset. Tombstone and Desolation will be required for some of the playlists and if you purchased them before Monday, 5/7, you will need to download them again before you can play online. Both maps will become free in early July.

This is LAME, aside from the fact that they didn't put out a disk for the new maps most people i know can't get the maps. As I don't have a credit card. I pretty much only played halo 2 online for team slayer and sometimes BTB as a break for it. looks like i'll have to join the trend in progress and just play team training matches and just quit out of the not slayer ones. So sad... and i finally started playing again after my rage at that cheaters video documentry.

Ugh, this is so completely ridiculous. The game isnt called "4v4 if you want a rank" for a reason... save for double team, thats what halo is becoming. I remember way back when it first came out, big team battle or big clan battles on waterworks, intense flag runs, and then gaining your precious 15 (15 was hgh way back when...) in those playlists was the most amazing feeling in the world. I stopped playing for over a year, come back, find out that matchmaking is way too easy to level up in (i see 50s everywhere... legit or not, its stupid), too many wierd playlists (at least the ones like SWAT are unranked... and other stuff i could complain about. But all was good in my world. I just leveled up in Rumble Pit, late in the wee hours of the morning, owning noobs and climbing the ranks since none of my friends were online and going into and 4v4 or double team playlist alone is a bad idea. Did you hear that Bungie? Everyone who plays Rumble Pit, albeit not many, play when their friends are sleeping or doing whatever else, and they just want to play some halo. Or perhaps they want to not depend on other players skill level. Thanks for ruining that. Seriously, the first day H2 came out, the playlists were great. You just now ruined BTB and RP. Truly though, why? Was not depending on other's skill levels, and just going by your OWN skill level not an accurate way to judge your OWN rank or not? Or BTB, when everyone actually needs to do their little share of work to plant that damn bomb in headlong. Im done rambling, but Bungie please hear my out. Rumble Pit is the only reason I bought a 360 elite and Xbox Live Gold, and now your taking that away? Halo has just lost its touch I guess, and you guys try to fix it by freshening up the playlists. We need variety. We all dont like nor want JUST team games. We need our huge "wow i dont even know half my team, but someone just captured the flag and i feel good about myself" BTB games ranked, and our amazing little RP killtacular sword-whoring Lockout matches. I really hope someone from Bungie can read, and try to respond to this.

I'm also having trouble with the blastacular map pack also. I mean really come on finally downloaded it a while back ago now it says to redownload it for an update and they said you wont be charged for it the 2nd time but right when i tried to download it it was charging me 4 dollars again so I said to my self whatever as long as I get to play matchmaking but it wouldnt let me download it. I tried and tried but no use and now i cant play matchmaking and that really makes me angry.

A lot of the people who have posted already haven't played the new maps or playlist. I have played several games in BTB and no big gripe there. I tried SWAT and it was slayer but it was as if it was in Team Training. Shields, Sword, and Snipe on Lockout . There was NOTHING to do with SWAT except the the word on the playlist I entered. 1 out of 3 games seems to be a Team Training Game. Is that correct? Why did Bungie put it in SWAT? Would it be possible to fix that playlist as well as dimming the effectiveness of host. It seems that if host is decent, then that person will get 20-25 kills. On the other hand trying to kill him is NEARLY impossible. Before the reset, If a person playing SWAT was going against the host 2 out of 3 bullets had to hit him in the host in the head in order to kill him. After the reset 6 bullets have to hit him in the head. Factor in reaction time of the host and 1 or 2 rounds from him or her and there is no way to kill him cleanly unless 2 players fire at them simultaneously. Like I said NEARLY impossible. New list is tight, but no 8 vs 8, not even unranked? I don't want to sound critical until we get an explanation (if we get one) but it alters - in a poor fashion, large maps for Team games. In certain games you have to leave two in your base for security and now you wind up with out even enough people to completely fill a Warhog. Just think, Multibomb with 4 v 4 means with two people back, you get two in the Hog, one with the bomb and one driving. That means no mounted weapon for support going in. No one in your vehicle can even shoot = sitting duck. Bungie has always done the right thing but I can't make sense of this. Screw up in Assault and all 4 people have to cross a large map again to get back to shot at planting a bomb, or grabbing a flag in CTF. Race after the bomb that is now in the opposing base where all died and half way there it gets returned, but since you are travelling in force you now have to send people back just to get the bomb. With an 8 person team you would have probably had someone spawning to grab it. You are better off just sitting and waiting on the bomb to be returned. This tactic = slow boring games. Yes there is 6 v 6 ...and it is unranked. 8 people allowed some sacrifice as a tactic. Coagulation and Containment mean that there will be a lot of ties 0 - 0 as Teams spend most of the game just getting to the other end, whether it is CTF or Assault. [Edited on 05.10.2007 9:56 PM PDT]

I have the new maps - I am able to play tem in Custom games. BUT I am not able to play them in matchmaking games such as: Team Slayer. What is going on Bungie? Not slipping are we? Get on it.

I'm personally fine with everything... but I think that for the many people who love rumble games the update is a little unfair. Only one out of the nine playlists is Rumble, [i][u]and[/u][/i] it's unranked. I understand that by making it unranked it is open to everyone, not just those who like to play by themselves (without guests or other party members), but I think having a ranked [i]and[/i] unranked playlist is a lot more sensible and would appeal more to the majority of Halo 2 online players. Rank means nothing to me, but to others it is a sign of accomplishment and ability, as well as being an effective way to be matched against other players of equal skill, which I think is essential for any good rumble game. The fun is gone when you have one person quite obviously demolishing everyone else because of his greater skill level. So, while I don't expect anything to be done any time soon, if there is to be a future Halo 2 update, I think it is only fair that the rumble playlist be divided to suit a wider range of players. -Ni Mip- EDIT: I also had trouble downloading the new maps the first time I tried. About a third of the way through it came up with an error. However, when I tried again it started from that same point and completed without interruption. Good luck to those still having problems. okay, i have spent my time and read through all 12 pages of this. and out of all of this, Seabiz said something that makes the most sense: "You dont fix something that is not broken". i dont know about you, but i thought that the list was perfect as it was, you had all the games that you wanted to play, and choices about ranked and unranked. i personally was a long time fan of BTB. and of course my favorite game was BTB Skimish. i almost never played the other games because BTB Skimish offered me what i wanted to play: a serious (for the most part) fight of 8 vs 8 in an objective-based game. now its gone, and only to be replaced with waht? unranked "Big Team Battle". which if you havent gotten a chance to play ....... well..... its not exactly BTB. its more of 6 year olds running around and i never endded a single game with the same number of people who joined. so i though MAYBE Team Skimish would make up for it.......it was even worse in my opinion. KOTH and Oddball are not really what i would call fun. before, i couldnt wait till i got home to play a few games of a fun game. now i honestly question me buying halo 3, the beta will decide for me. i hope they fix what is really broken now. please fix the playlist back to something closely related to that previous playlist. "You dont fix something that is not broken."

GO to your XBOX 360 dashboard, account management, and check ur credit card. then save it, then just back out and then go directly to the download section and it should download.

I can freiking download the maps but, it says there is an error at the end of it and wont let me download them! AHHHHHHHHHH

Why are the maps still not downloading! They came in fine the first time and just continue to error out this go around. What a Joke! They make up a reason to force everyone to download again just to cover up there own error of not charging everyone for the maps the first time AND THEY SCREW IT UP AGAIN! Microsoft must be pulling its employees from the "Help Hire the Handicap" program down at their local YMCA! Maybe they will get this fixed before Halo 3 comes out, NOT!

I was having the same problem as all of you but this is what I just did. I have a 360, so I went to account info, checked out the card info, went back to the Halo 2 D/L page and tried it again and it worked the 1st time. I tried for 45 minutes this morning, and 30 more minutes tonight... Now that I did that I get it the 1st time.....

This is one big fat joke you screwed up the dowwnloads the first time and just because a few people got past paying (NOT That many did) They make an excuse of they have to fix a corner or a superjump that leads nowhere which is bull you reputation is going down bungie and if you screw up the halo 3 beta EVERYONE WILL BE PISSED

i am having trouble downloading the new maps the blastacular map pack when i go to down load it it says purcheas failed you will not be charged for this transaction please try ain later and i hav been trying alot and it let me get them before but it deleted them some how and now it wont let me download them i hav tried deleting the old map packs didnt work and i am using a prepaid gold membership card for xbox live the 3 month card the gold membership so do you know what is wrong if so please tell me i really would like to be able to play all the match made games agin and get my rankings back ecspecholy team slayer please help me and i really apperchiate your help alot thank you so much thank you =] . please help me please than you very very much =].

Bungie and microsoft had nothing to do with these new maps, they were made by certain affinity. Of course they are going to charge for the maps they've just built. Why would they offer them for free?? A lovely comparison with the $2 to $2000. If you cant afford to spend $2 on some new maps for your favorite game, then you shouldnt be buying them! Play something else!
