My parents just don't understand me.

I apologize for the cliche and nonsensical title, but I figured it would grab your attention. If you're reading this, I'll assume I've succeeded. Let's just cut to the chase - my parents are naturally highly social and athletic people. They have a large group of friends, and leave the me the household most days of the week. I, by contrast, am their polar opposite. Like many others on the Flood, I am rather shy, avoidant, and introverted. I prefer a small, close group of friends and need much time alone to "recharge" so to speak. Ever since I was born, sports have been forced upon me. You name it - I've played it. They've given into my constant protests, and at this point it's come down to curling, which I have reluctantly played for the past 5 years. As I have reached the age of 15, they've given me an ultimatum. Either pick up more sports and come out of my shell, or get a job. As I mentioned before, I am highly anti-social and avoidant, and thus find it difficult to pick up either of these. Not to mention I'm undoubtedly unwilling. I definitely don't enjoy sports, and to be frank, I really don't want to grow up. Anone can admit life is hard, and getting a job and accepting that reality is the first step. It may seem naive, but this is how I feel. There is a large amount of tension between the both of us, and I'm being pressured quickly into a decision, and be extension out of my "cave", as my parents would call it. wat do flud?

  • Getting a job will develop your sociability. I've never been very good at sports; I dabbled a bit in Rugby, but I wasn't very good at handling the ball. As such, I was really inactive until 16, when I decided to start going to gym. But yeah, get a job for now. And if you don't like sports, join the gym. At least then you can tell your parents you are getting exercise, and then get ripped.
