Why is it believed that Halsey had "special" feelings for John?
Aside from her saying that John was the best of Spartans, why is it generally believed that Dr. Halsey had a fondness for him above all other Spartans? Did she do anything for him she wouldn't have done for the Spartans? Did she treat him a special way?

in the Fall of Reach book, Cortana says something to the tune of "john sure is handsome don't you think so doctor?" And then Halsey blushes. Can't think of anything else

I don't think she treated him in a particular special manner. Halsey just acknowledge John's unique qualities as a Spartan.

I think she saw him as the leader of the group.

Don't recall that ever being said. Maybe she respected him the most because he was their leader, [i]and[/i] the first to get picked, but Halsey loved all the Spartans.
