• So much wrong with this...
Posted by: Gaara444 Anime is for pathetic low life nerds that have no social life, so they resort to Chinese Cartoons as a escape from their failed social interactions.
Posted by: jacobwseibers Hes just like that sorry.

• I've watched some anime but never really found out what was so good about it so I quit, I don't think it's bad for anybody, unless you take it too seriously.

In fact, it's not that far of a stretch to say that the ones filled with blood and gore are a rarity.
I wouldn't say you are completely incorrect. The same can be said of comics being only for kids, but you've got examples like Watchmen, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come and 300 that are for adults. For anime, there are a lot of kid friendly stuff, but things like Black Lagoon, Witchblade, Death Note, Hellsing, and Gantz that are mature. The film Akira is a great example of a mature anime film along with Ghost in the Shell.
How many shows of that type air per season? Try answering the question
Don't know, I'm not a huge follower of anime. Most get about 2 from what I can tell.

 •
Posted by: Sparkfire
1. If you're so busy, what are you doing on an off-topic forum in a game developers website arguing with a stranger over the internet about why anime isn't just for children? 2. Several of those shows in the lists that you've provided I wouldn't mind showing to my children (under the assumption that I had any). 3. You haven't answered the second question, the more important of the two. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that your GRIM DARK SO EDGY AND MATURE shows aren't a common occurrence. In fact, it's not that far of a stretch to say that the ones filled with blood and gore are a rarity.
Posted by: jacobwseibers Anime seems to be popular on the flood. •
Posted by: ReconE14
sigh you're still on about this? You're wasting both of our time since you appear to be [somewhat] supporting my thesis. You wanting me to name ten-odd anime with an older target audience doesn't support the discussion in either way. If my initial hyperbole threw you on this tangent then that was my error, but what you're asking is still irrelevant. I name 10 shows and then what - you go off-topic further debunking the validity of the shows I listed? For my sanity, I will oblige: List 1 | List 2 | List 3 Again, laundry lists full of shows - including well know ones (and many that I personally own) found from a search engine. You know - the place where select posters could have gone to educate themselves prior to making incorrect posts. I set out to correct an inaccurate observation/generalization and I have done so with supporting evidence. That's the end - this has gone off topic long enough. [Edited on 12.29.2012 12:15 AM PST]

Some are, some aren't; however it is generally marketed for older audiences. And I guarantee I've seen more than you have but we can continue that tangent in PMs if you desire. • Eh, some of it is pretty cool. I liked the first season of Sword Art Online, for example, because of it's psychological thrills revolving around being trapped in a virtual reality MMO that actually kills you in the real world when you die. Seeing how traditional gamer behavior play out in this world was intense. Cyborg 009 aged fairly well since the time I watched it as a kid. Frankly, I just enjoy the plot and the characters. They are all well rounded and have interesting back stories. I even liked High School of the Dead to an extent. Yes the amount of fanservice was -blam!- shameful, but it had really gripping moments that revolved around the collapse of society. So...I disagree with the OP.

 •
Posted by: Sparkfire
Posted by: ReconE14
Posted by: Sparkfire
Posted by: Gaara444 Anime is for children.
Explains why most anime includes profanity, nudity, excessive violence, and other themes netting them a PG+ rating, amirite? Try again.
Name 10 and how many of that type of show airs per season?
There are several off of the top of my head that include all of the above in some capacity or another but that's beside the point. Anime as a whole is marketed towards a more mature audience unless it specifically is not, e.g. shows rated Y7 (pokemon). A lot of anime shown on TV premiers on Adult Swim for this very reason. I've yet to see a serious anime show that is not TV14-PG.
Please don't dodge the questions and answer them Also, let me just say that if you haven't seen a serious anime show that is not TV14-PG and higher, you haven't seen many shows This happens to be a seinen What does that mean? That means it's targeted towards adult males Coincidentally, it can also be watched by kids Just more proof that Japan is filled with manchildren [Edited on 12.28.2012 11:48 PM PST]
