After playing Halo 4....

I'm feeling a little nostalgic right now. I miss you guys. I just played through a whole series from Halo CE(orig) to Halo Reach. And after I played 1 game of Halo 4 and there are so many things missing but you guys are the main thing missing. How could you give up your creation? I know M$ kill your horse and turn it into a camel with deadlines but you can't just give it up. It's everything you know, which is everything we know. And right now 343i don't give a damn about its community and the Halo name is being destroyed for (a very obvious observation) money. I've been a fan since day uno. The first announcement of Halo CE. I've pre-ordered every delicious limited/legendary edition you had to offer, I have collected every figurine, including the uber rare 12" Masterchief and the pair of Halo 3 Hunters. I even went outside the box for a Carter custom made helmet and a 1:1 replica of the Reach Sniper, DMR, ODST's Automag and SMG and Halo 3's battle rifle. I guess 343i just don't live up to your name, your talent. And the talent they have right now is just not for me. Gotta love sitting in the Menu for hours just listening to Martys gift. I'm cluing myself up on everything there is to know about Destiny. It's already my Cover photo and desktop background as soon as that leaked picture was released by you. But I'm a Bungie fan through and through now for 16 years. And I will continue as long as you promise to be amazing as usual. See you starside guys. JuICyBLIinGeR

 • Its would be cool if bungie made a game where you play as arbiters life... I mean think about it No1 knows alot about him but that he is the greatest leader that got turned down, given another chance then became a ally to the humans and left to go back home but it would be pretty cool to make a game where you PLAY as arbiter what do you think?

 •
Posted by: iDarkWint3r 343 left out so much in regards to Halo than Bungie ever did. Bungie raised the stakes and made 343 fall short. My expectations and skepticism for the game was just cringe-worthy. I played it and seemed to actually enjoy it. After a while, the game became bland as a rice. Bungie's versions of Halo such as: 2 & 3 never gave a bland feel to me. This in comparison to Halo 4 makes me not enjoy 343's grasp on Halo.
This.

 • Halo 4 doesn't feel like halo to me. I feel that 343 left out so much that defined halo.

 • You pretty much echoed my sentiments. There is also a small cadre of Bungie people that stayed on and joined 343 to continue Halo so Bungie is still there in a small way.

 •
Posted by: Mikal7 I feel that the current industry is flooded with "new talent" that all gear their games towards a cookie-cutter formula (i.e. how a 3rd (or 1st) person game is "supposed" to play, or how a shooter (or adventure) game is "supposed" to be). We've lost so much; the industry has stagnated.
This is my greatest fear. Regardless of what one felt about Reach, its result might be partially due to this "new talent". From Marcus Letho's blog. I look up to the man, I really do, and agree with much that he has written, but this particular post made it seem like he was far to relaxed and tolerant, that he maybe allowed the development to become a little too unfocused. Now, I don't know if Bungie operates like him as a whole, and if that's how Destiny is being developed now that he's left the studio, but it is certainly one of my fears; that Destiny will be more of a studio effort, with too much regard for how the game fares with the general audiance, than the vision of a few/the core, that dares to slap the player on its fingers now and then. Deus Ex vs Invisible War for instance, where the latter was a studio effort rather than a Warren Spector and Harvey Smith game, and look how that turned out.. It's almost a trend in the industry.. • OP, I can definitely see where you are coming from. However, Halo: Reach is forcing me to play it safe with the next Bungie game. I hate to say it, but it's true. Bungie has an amazing track-record (Marathon, Halo: CE-3, etc.). I can't tell you how much I want Destiny to be amazing. But the game industry as a whole has created a sense of skepticism in me (and many others), and I can't shake this feeling that Bungie has drifted too far from the original creative-spark that brought us the amazing games of the last two decades. I feel that the current industry is flooded with "new talent" that all gear their games towards a cookie-cutter formula (i.e. how a 3rd (or 1st) person game is "supposed" to play, or how a shooter (or adventure) game is "supposed" to be). We've lost so much; the industry has stagnated. I truly want Bungie to break this stagnation, and revive the innovative spark in the industry. But innovation and imitation often get confused when comparing titles...

 • I think the thing about Bungie is that they didn't want to make as many more Halo games as M$ was asking them to, hence why they left. They love the franchise, but we should respect their wishes not to make more Halo games if they don't want to right now.

 • At first I was sad as you are to see them go, I watched Halo: Legends, hated it with all my heart, then the trailer for Halo 4 and I completely hated it at first, then I started seeing information about the game here and there and I got hyped. I rented the game and I actually liked it a lot, so I bought it. But here's the deal, Halo 4 is a good game, and I believe 343 are doing Halo with passion and they actually care for the Universe, but Bungie had a special touch which this game lacks now, it's there in the trailers the cutscenes, it was all so theatrical and the music and scenes fitted so well! And the artistic design for the structures and characters, i loved it! I usually compare them both with a commercial movie (343) and a more epic but still so artistic movie like for example: LOTR (Bungie). That's the feel i get from them. Also I just prefered Halo's story before, I didn't like the background story they gave to the Forerunners or the fact that we are fighting with them now, or the whole Ancient-humans thing, and here I'm a little confused with myself because I think it's actually a pretty good story, but being part of Halo... not so much, but that's just my opinion. But on the other hand i don't get why Bungie chose to ingore their original story with Reach, to contradict so much and make in comparision of the book's original story such a bad one. It's the only Halo game that I get the feel like it was forced, like they didn't want to make it, but it may be just my imagination. And in conclusion: In what respects to Bungie Halo IS their baby, I'm sure they loved it and they worked in it with all their hearts. But it was in the contract, it was out of their hands and I'm sure Bungie would have kept it if they could. I'm sure if they were to continue it they would have waited some time, explore new universes and then launch a Halo game or two, then explore a new universe again... But Microsoft is always hungry for money and they wanted it right away. That's what I would have wanted for Halo, but that's just opinion and it is way too "utopian". I just wish things could happen as best as possible more often. I'm pretty much hyped for Destiny and hope it turns out to be another great story and at the same time hyped for the next Halo games and books to see how the story continues. And there my friends, is my wall of text. [Edited on 12.17.2012 2:07 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: the real Janaka I think this Bungie fan vs Halo fan has gone to far. It's faulty. Halo was a product of Bungie. Remove Bungie and it's likely that Halo won't be done the same way as it used to; it wasn't done the same way. Halo is--just like all other products--an entity that's defined by those who made it, or--more importantly--how they made it. It's not a question about quality, it's a question about style. Bungie is not defined by Halo, they've made lots of games. The games may be similar to one another, but they're different enough to attract different people. One doesn't have to be a fan of Halo to be a fan of Bungie, vice versa. It's a neat little cross chart. If one likes everything that Bungie's done, I guess one could be called a hardcore fan, and everything between, a nuance of fandom. If one liked Halo under Bungie, one liked Halo, that's it, that's the original. Don't try and nullify that fandom just becasue someone else is making Halo differently, that's terribly respectless. If one likes Halo under 343i, one likes an adaptation of Halo. Again, not a question of quality, but style. So don't turn it into a matter of liking Halo or Bungie, cause Halo is a product of Bungie. See you starside OP!
Makes sense.

And I just want to point out that you have no idea who I am and a couple of paragraphs won't give you massive clues. I am entitled to question why they left and give a few idiotic words about it. Anyway. I'm still a fan, still following Bungie. It's not a whiny post. And there is where I think you misread.
I apologise for the rather sharp comment I made earlier. My mood was a bit sour at the moment. I attacked you based on not who you were, but by the statements you made. I understand that you feel that Bungie would have done a better job with Halo than 343, but I am also rather disappointed by the fact that you do not respect Bungie's decision in this matter. I want to ask you a question: Are you a Halo fan? Or a Bungie fan? I think that if you are a Bungie fan, you would respect their decision to move on from Halo, and support them through various ways as a community member. If you are a Halo fan, you would want Halo to continue to be good, or improve, even. In this case your roles conflict. You want Halo to be good, yet you want Bungie to continue to be awesome, right? Having Bungie back in the Halo Universe is not the solution. As a fellow Halo fan, I understand that you want the best for the series, but I regret to inform you that we have to pin our hopes on 343 Industries now. There are other ways to improve the series, including giving feedback to 343(which may or may not work).  However, whether the Halo series continues to decline in your eyes, Bungie will still make its own games, so if you truly believe that the Halo franchise is a sinking ship, perhaps you should consider leaving it behind in favour of other games. I understand how you feel. I've been a Halo fan since CE too. I, too, feel that Bungie would do a better job with Halo, but I stand by their decision to move to greener fields.
I like the sweeter touch then your sour patch approach earlier ;p I think I am both, Halo and Bungie. I always talk up Halo to everyone and always invite new players round to watch and experience how good it is. It's the adrenaline to get in the last kill, or how action packed some of the campaign is, the beautiful animation of grenade detonation or frigate explosions.  I have a friend who worked on Fable III and is now a QA tester at EA (we're both in the same fields) and I showed him Halo 3, after that, when we went out drinking, we had LAN parties beforehand with the group we were partying with, whoever lost drank a shot of tequila  and the absolute loser had a shot of Absinthe :P I'm always getting new people into Halo. And the Halo I love is Bungie's finest work, I didn't doubt 343i when I saw all the perfectly chosen trailers to advertise how awesome Halo 4 looked. Looked, that's a great word, it looks amazing but after playing it for sometime, a glitch here, collision contact between the warthog and surface was visually off by 3-4 in-game inchs, actual holes in the campaign which makes you fall through the level (Infinity), poorly executed explosions in the campaign and Spec Ops, sorry, Spartan ops. But the main problem, so much is the lack of communication with the community (which I believe Frank O'Conner was on Bungie's community team ironically), So many problems are not addressed on Waypoint. This is just frustrating for the fans and not many of my friends can be bothered to play because of this reason. Out of all the controversy as to why Bungie left, I remember watching Halo 2's "the making", and how they had to cut so many things out because of the deadline. It makes me think how much better it would have been if they had the time to create the vision. I always thought they left because of these reasons.  But, I am waiting patiently for Destiny, like I was waiting for Halo 2 when I first saw Chief duel-wielding SMG's. It's all about the detail for me and Bungie nails it every time. Thanks for the revised post, and thanks for posting too guys.

 • You are, indeed, a Bungie fan through and through, and I think it was always gonna be difficult for you to love Halo 4. I get the feeling you gave up on Halo when Bungie left. There are those who loved Halo, and those who loved Bungie. As in they will stay with Halo for as long as Bungie did, and no longer. I loved Halo, and Bungie for creating it. I will always love Halo and follow its rich universe till it ends or it's not being made with love and care. I feel 343 is creating it with love and care, and has helped enrich the franchise. I'll also follow Bungie's new stuff, and wait to see if it's any bit as successful as their last endeavor.
