Why is everyone saying how grest TES morrowind is now?

Honestly I could not get into the game... mainly due to the combat. I would swing at something 1 foot ahead of me and it won't register the hit. When oblivion came out everyone was saying.how it was lightvyears ahead of morrowind but now that skyrim been out for a while people are saying how great morrowind was.. Was it really that good?

  •
Posted by: True Underdog "Now?" People have been saying how good Morrowind is since before Oblivion came out.
Indeed. You should have seen the reactions on the Bethsoft forums when Skyrim WASN'T announced as Morrowind 2... Though to be fair, Morrowind's content with Skyrim's engine - who doesn't want that? (I am being rhetorical, please don't call me up on that :P) [Edited on 12.05.2012 3:18 PM PST]

Oblivion felt like any other midevil RPG with the atmosphere but Skyrim feels more like an outlandish world to me. Too bad the only good story was the DB in Skyrim. MQ was the same cliche thing since the beginning of TES.

  • Maybe because a Skyrim DLC with parts of morrowind was just released? Sure to get the nostalgia juices flowing.

Hipster's gonna hip: when a new series entry is received, hipsters berate the developers for attempting to expand their series, and claim that its predecessor was superior, sometimes going back to the very first entry. Whilst Morrowind wasn't the first TES, it was the first on console, and is therefore likely to have been the first for a lot of fans.

  • Morrowind and Oblivion had better stories than Skyrim. However, Oblivion blew Morrowind out of the water when it came to combat. I personally liked Oblivion better, as i could not get into Morrowind for the same reasons. I do not deny that Morrowind is one of the, if not the, best TES games.

  •
Posted by: True Underdog "Now?" People have been saying how good Morrowind is since before Oblivion came out. I enjoy Morrowind and Skyrim way more than Oblivion. Oblivion sacrificed a lot of the things I enjoyed in Morrowind and it still looks ugly as sin. I give it a pass though, since games have come a long way but it doesn't mean it's any more enjoyable to me. Skyrim has the same sacrifices but it gives me a good, fluid UI and it looks damn good.
Shut up, s'wit.

They should've never taken out unarmored and hand to hand, though. :( [Edited on 12.05.2012 2:41 PM PST]

You're going to miss in combat sometimes. Alot of people forget that sometimes. As far as graphics and animation goes, it was released in 2002. I really think it's better than the past 2 installments because out of those 3, it sticks to the open world format the best. Wanna go check out that distant mountain? Good, better prep for a long walk, because you ain't fast-traveling there and you're probably going to get bum-pummeled by cliff racers 3 seconds into your journey. Besides, any Elder Scrolls game without a pair of Travel-Stained Pants is doin' it wrong.
if you have not played nehrim, i think you should go do so now. one of the best mods ever
I don't PC game. As for your earlier post, it hasn't aged well, but the GotY edition of the game had some tweaks to it, such as including enemy health bars so you could see when you're hitting them. However, for it's time, the game was amazing. I wasted so many days back in 03-04 just dicking around the wilderness scouring caves and mines. Morrowind had a sense of immersion I didn't get out of Oblivion or Skyrim.

  • People have said that Morrowind was the best for years now. It's certainly not a new trend. I haven't played it myself though, so I can't render judgement.
