Something just occurred to me about Destiny...

So a big problem with Halo 4 was that by the time we knew anything about the game, it was too late for 343 to make any big changes. Coupled with fact it had no beta, we didn't know a lot of stuff had been left out. Bungie's new game however, is still in Development. I'm willing to bet that we still have time to voice our wants and opinions, similar to what the Flood did with Halo 4 (Even if it was past the time and on the wrong site.) We are in the right time and on the right site! So ask away Community, what do you want to be in Destiny? inb4wedon'tknowenoughtowantanything(yeswedo,goreadtheflood) inb4OPcan'tinb4

 •
Posted by: Father Franklin I hope I'm wrong, because I personally think Beta's are extremely valuable to the development process. But in my experience, it becomes a nag fest of entitled teenagers, and I wouldn't want to put anyone through that, especially Bungie.
They managed to survive Reach, an excellent game that got hated on for not being Halo 3. I'm sure they can survive Destiny.

 •
Posted by: Father Franklin
Posted by: Hylebos Why open up their world to people who do not yet understand the point beyond it? Because the act of criticism cannot possibly hurt the game so long as the listener can properly sort through it.
I agree, but that is quite the assumption of a group of random gamers. I hate to sound like a critic, but unless the Beta is restricted to Bungie.net regulars (a group that I probably wouldn't be included in because I don't post often), the process will be more cumbersome than it is beneficial.
Data Mining is Data Mining. Bungie doesn't have the abillity to test how people in Australia connect with people in Russia by themselves. Beyond discovering bugs I don't even think our criticism does a ton during the Beta stage. [Edited on 11.27.2012 1:31 PM PST]

 • I don't want Bungie to lose touch with their community.

 •
Posted by: Father Franklin I agree that most people do not know what's best for them with a video game. Beta's are great because we get to voice our opinions, but when you really open up the floodgates, people are just plain brutal. For their second game I can see them doing this, but why open up their world to people who do not yet understand the point behind it. I say let them release the game THEY intend us to enjoy, and as expansions and new games start being developed, use the months and months of feedback/experience to shape future games.
Why open up their world to people who do not yet understand the point behind it? Especially if Destiny features a higher player count than Halo does, Bungie will not miss the chance to gather raw networking data from a Beta which they can use to optimize and fine tune things before the game launches.
I think Arbitor was trying to say since Destiny is a new IP, there shouldn't be a Beta because that would spoil the matchmaking and the game's universe.
My point stands.

 • OP is right. However I've been researching Destiny for a long time since the first rumor and we actually do know a lot about the game. It's a huge open world game where you shoot Aliens. It's NOT a classic FPS because it's an open world and it's NOT a MMO because Destiny won't be a server-based and it's NOT a hybrid between the two. Then what is Destiny? Throw Boarderlands and Playstation Home (game) together and mix it with Bungie's talent. It's a game that is more fun when you play it online. The game randomly finds other players who are in the same area of the map as you and combines the adventure. This makes the world feel more alive.

 •
Posted by: burritosenior
Posted by: lime013 Well, just look at Reach. Info stared rolling in around January and we got a Beta in May. Then, from May to September, we got a few months to voice our opinions and things did change, like the Plasma Launcher.
It also taught us that the community has no idea what it actually wants. >.<
How so?
Posted by: IcyWind I imagine Bungie would have a Beta for Destiny. At least, I hope they would.
They have the Beta Tester Program so I'm sure they are already getting feed back from the people already chosen for that and if they haven't started that yet when they do they will.
