Halo 4 Campaign Questions (Major Spoilers)

Cortana is dead. Think this is the end of her character or do you think she'll come back in some capacity? I for one am very pissed that they killed her off. But my other questions: 1. During the final scene when the Didact is speaking, who is he speaking to? 2. How did the Didact survive? 3. Why isn't the Didact aware that humanity is not the enemy? (Having Read the first 2 forerunner novels he seems to regret ever going to war with humanity) But now he seems like he NEEDS to do it and that it's the only logical thing to do. (Interesting note: During book 2 of the forerunner saga there were random times when chakas a.k.a. 343 guilty spark was speaking with a human science team that was looking for the Didact. Perhaps those conversations were set after Halo 4? 4. How did the Chief survive that nuke blast?

 • 1. He's speaking to the Forerunner council 100,000 years before Halo4 2. How did he survive what? The Halo's firing? The Cryptum would have shielded him in a slipspace bubble. If you are asking how he could survive Halo 4, Forerunner armour would keep him safe in space and he can't be composed so falling through the beam wouldn't harm him. 3. He is aware of the Flood threat and the possible return of the Precursers. That's why he wanted to compose Earth, to build an army. 4. Cortana was in the ships systems and had control of the hardlight She protected the Chief the same way she restrained the Didact. [Edited on 11.09.2012 6:55 AM PST]

 • Refer to my post in the 'Halo 4 Campaign Cortana' thread, it's a little long, but discusses some of the points you guys asked about. 1. In the final scene, we are hearing the Diadect addressing a tribunal of other Forunners; You hear him mention he is accused. This is a sort of flashback that leads up to the next game. 2. Spartans have survived planet-fall before, it's not unreasonable to think that the Diadect did in this case. 3. Short and simple: Ancient Humans encounter flood, flee and attack Forunner empire to get away; Forunners think they are expanding violently. Flood reaches devastated remains of both forces, cue rings going off. The Forunners were a highly advanced race that tended and guided other intelligent life through their evolutional phases. The humans did not reach this level yet, and the Diadect is convinced they would remain a violent people who would kill off/subjegate the rest of the universe's lifeforms. That is why he refused to pass the mantle of responsibility to the humans, which the other Forunners decided must happen before they accepted their fate to die out. That is why Diadect thinks humans are the enemy. 4. See my response in other thread for 'teleportation grid' concept.

 • 1. Didact is just a narrator there, talking to himself. However, his speech happens to draw a parallel with the Chief. 2. He fell into a slipspace event thing, which was the glowing orange thingamajig. IIRC, Cortana mentions it before the QTE fight. 3. The Forerunners are gone, and he doesn't want them to be. He's bitter over being imprisoned for whatever he did, or something. It's not very clear. 4. Cortana probably digitized him (hence why she could touch him). The Librarian said he was immune to the Composer -- after discussing the fact Promethean Knights are the result of digitizing and undigitizing organisms. So, he might just have been immune to that effect, but still perfectly capable of being digitized and returned to the physical world. Overall, it wasn't explained very well.

His speech at the end could have been from the past, or simply they liked his voice acting. 3. can't help ya. 4. I had the same question and got this answer on the Halo waypoint forums.
Earlier in the Campaign, the Librarian explained how the Composer could function like a bridge between the analog and the digital world. When the didact was using the composer, Cortana was in the system and was able to pull Chief across into the digital realm at the last second (sorta like Tron), and then after saying goodbye, returned him to the analog world. A bit confusing yes, but it was explained and does make sense (pertaining to the circumstances presented in the game).

There's I e huge problem with that. That was the whole reason for the composer and it didn't work. Cortana was no where close to Forunners and she was losing her mind. And also the composer was destroyed.
And he's immune to the Composer. I thought she manupulated the light bridge to protect him. Basically, chief armor locked.
this, the huge box he was in after the explosion was the light bridge. I believe cortana somehow folded it up to shield him. Idk, it was pretty confusing

His speech at the end could have been from the past, or simply they liked his voice acting.
No he survived. How he survived though is a mystery. Maybe all will be revealed in Halo 5? It is said to be the darkest Halo yet so maybe he gets his revenge on humanity?
Or maybe instead of all the HDR/bloom they'll use shadows to hide the old age of the consoles - therefore dark. With Cortana it's either bring her back via a "back up copy somewhere" (you know they would pull it out of their ass if they needed to) or they'll replace her with some new random commander. Also, it would be quite funny if Chief would die in Halo 5 and get replaced with an S4 making the new Halo trilogy totally in the arms of 343. Because you know, so far they don't seem to be liking tied to Bungie's legacy too much, are they?
