Discuss what we all have in common.

Though we may deny it, I believe our savior is amongst us...

I've noticed a trend lately here in the Septagon during this time of darkness. The content we discuss everyday varies more than it has in recent times. I have read some very elaborately constructed discussion topics, trolls, and everything in between. I think it is about time to come out speak something that has been on my mind for a while. Before I begin I want to start you off with a light appetizer to prepare your hunger for some great content. I remember a time when threads about specific members were not allowed. I will admit, I very briefly looked over the Bungie.net Forum Rules (Updated 1/25/2011) to double check if this would be breaking any rules. Unless I am incorrect, this list of rules does not say I cannot post a thread based on a specific user. Then I remembered the "Community Joes" interviews. They are obviously based on a specific user but another thing about the interviews is that, honestly, they contain no discussion value. That is not something I want to get into at this time though (no offence to the CJ interviews, I personally enjoy them). My basic point here is that I'm not sure what is going to happen once I post this. Will it be controversial? Possibly, but much like the person I am about to discuss, I am not worried about what anyone says or thinks about me. That is the point of an opinion, correct? And in my opinion, an opinion, if not already opinionated, is not a legitimate opinion unless stated and defended--all of which I am about to do. Now that I have your mouths salivating, I don't want to keep you waiting on the main course. I expect a decent tip at the end of your meals, by the way. On July 23, 2009, an account was created. This account would go down in Bungie.net history and the name is probably even more recognizable than even Achronos. The member I speak if is none other than spartain ken 15. Whoa! Hold your horses. Don't hit the "reply" button just yet! You may be shocked by what I have to say about ken. *cracks knuckles* Ken has been an inspiration to me. I have had past inspirations such as Foman (back when he was cool during the CompoundIntelligence days) and Duardo (I guess he is still kinda cool) but I can't say I have had any other people here on B.net who have joined 3 years later than myself and made such an impact on not only myself but the entire community. "Come on Recoil! Get on with the flaming so we can all get a laugh before this thread is ultimately locked and you are banned and lose your blue bar!" No, no, no. That's not what this is about. And if I do lose my title, lose my ability to join in on discussions here in the Community forums for a little while, or, in a worse case scenario, we are all hit by an infamous carpet bomb by a mod who obviously needs to dig out his front sack-weggie, it will all, ultimately, be worth it. Spartain ken 15 is, in my point of view, one of, if not, the most ideal Bungie.net community member who still lurks the dark depths of this place. I have never seen so many people hate on one guy in a virtual community so hard and that same guy still not give a damn about what any of them have to say. I commend you to the highest for that, ken. As you are all most likely aware, memes of spartain ken 15 have been made, inside jokes about spartain ken 15 line threads everyday, and for those who have had the ability to see the them, countless threads have been created about spartain ken 15 in one particular group that I am still so ever happy to have been accepted into. But through all of this, all of the harassment, spartain ken 15 still continues to visit B.net everyday. He still continues to try and join in on discussions and to be accepted. He still maintains his 100+ PPD (in which is a legit, non-spam 100 PPD). He still continues to support Bungie more than 99% percent of the so called "fans" that play their games and visit this site daily. He hasn't once let any of the criticism slow him down. Now, for all the haters out there, your visions of ken have been clouded. I will admit, ken seemed a bit immature, a meer unknowing virgin to Bungie, when he originally joined. Since then, he has truly matured into quite a member. Nobody can accept this change because of all the past perceptions built and created about ken. Honestly, if you are one of those who still linger on the forementioned perceptions, you are the ones who are immature. You are followers. You see other "cool" members hating on ken so the easy thing to do is to agree with them. I've seen so many people attempt to put ken down and never did I once attempt to defend him. I would say I wish I would have but I don't have to. Ken didn't feed the flame. He simply shouldered them off, he showed maturity, and he honestly never gave a damn about anything anyone ever had to say about him. I guess this is the first strike on the Berlin wall, my attempt to tear down a barrier many of you have been neglecting to look past for quite some time now. I've never seen someone personally defend ken before and if you have, I'm glad you did what I never did. This is something I felt is important to me and something that I have seen as a glaring scar on the Bungie Community. If we are the "close knit" community we are made out to be, wouldn't that make the community a hypocrite as a whole? I appreciate you taking time to see what I had to say tonight. If you don't have anything positive to say, I would prefer your sending me a PM. I'm not posting this to flare up any arguments so don't waste your time. Ken, keep it up bud. If there was ever an opportunity to do so, I would nominate you for "Member of the Year" or "Super User" (if that is still even possible) because you are the example of what a community member should strive to be like. And no, that doesn't mean you all have to go post 100 replies a day.

 •
Posted by: ctjl96 ahhahahahahahhahahaahhahahhahaha OT: You've PMed me plenty of times with "you're a bad member", "you should see le Mythic group" etc.; I recommend you take this thread and just do the same.
Now I said I wasn't going to get any arguments or anything so I am going to reply once and only once since you want to attempt to belittle me in my thread. Firstly, this thread is not about you so stop trying to make it about you. Second, unlike ken, it's almost as if you do the things you do to push the moderators as close to the edge as you can to see if they ban you or not. To back this up, I remember a PM replying to a question I asked you. I asked, "Then why would you even say something like that." or something along those lines and you replied to me, "Mostly for self-amusement." I haven't ever told you that you are a "bad member", but I have many times questioned your hostility and what you do for "self-amusement" and attempted to make suggestions to not getting banned every other week. I have given up on that, you are who you are and you are too hard headed to realize any meaning in anything I have ever said to you. I have never blocked you or anything along those lines. So, I will politely ask you to -blam!- off and avoid posting in my thread if your goal is to turn me in a hypocrite. I obviously think a little more highly of ken than I do you.

 • You understand this is going to just bring up all the old crap none of us ever wanted to deal with again right? Its fine if you like specific users, and its fine to post constructively about them. But leave it to PMs if its going to be a diatribe and hero worship. A thread about how good users behave is fine. A thread about a user, if you have their permission, and if there are not a ton of potential negative reactions spawning from it is fine too. This...just crosses a line. I don't normally lock a thread because I don't like it, but I do frequently lock threads if I see a serious potential for it to turn sour. I don't like this thread, but I do see some serious potential for abuse. Especially since that potential could easily be avoided if you simply made the thread about general behavior, or simply just PMed whomever you want to laud. I mean, look at all the inane, pseudo-religious hyperbole. This is simply unacceptable. As such, locked. I suggest you take this to PM if you want to further praise a specific user. If you decide to make another thread about this sort of thing, make it about THE COMMUNITY instead of kneeling at the feet of a specific user.

 • To be honest, even though it's technically a rule anymore I don't think a thread all about a single member is a smart idea. Especially when it comes to ken; even if you're not trolling, you made this thread with the knowledge that it's likely going to draw fire. Anyway, ken's not a bad guy, in the scenario that you are in fact being bitterly sarcastic, which is not really that unlikely.

 •
Posted by: American Recoil
Posted by: MasterSin No offense to the Ken member, nor you OP but, you guys people try so hard to make someone popular for a reason, I just don't know why you keep talking so high about someone, I don't know what he has done to be so "popular" to you or anyone else, for me he is just another member.
You missed the point. In a sense, yes, this thread outlines the popularity of a member but what I am trying to explain is the negative popularity he has received.
Well no one gets negative popularity out of nowhere. If he is not popular in the community... I'm not hated because I'm not elitist or someone who likes to show off or write pointless posts that lead to nowhere. (I'm not saying this Ken is doing that) But if the community doesn't like it, this is not gonna make it any better. His actions speak for themselves, you, speaking on his behalf doesn't make any better because he is not greater than anyone else here. [Edited on 09.13.2012 8:49 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: LordOfBlah51 I'm not sure why you thought it was necessary to talk about this at all. Everyone has their own opinion, and if someone doesn't like Ken, then that's their problem. Ken is cool enough to let it slide, yeah, but I honestly don't see what else I'm supposed to say besides "umm, ok" to this topic.
message is hypocrisy next thread will touch on the virtues of literacy

 •
Posted by: Duck duck DEATH
Maybe it's ken who has inspired your infamous one liners/worders. I'm proud I got more than 10 characters out of you. Haha!

 • While your post was most inspirational, I had to see these miraculous posts for myself. I quickly went to his profile and viewed his recent posts. At first I was unsure, but now there can be no doubt. Posts such as "I think I am a stud", "wat", and "Who doesn't like trains?" have not only given me comfort but also a strong moral compass and sense of purpose. Death to all who insult trains!

 •
Posted by: burritosenior You have converted me. I am now a follower of the Cult of Ken.
I wouldn't put it in those words... At all... But, yeah, I never really liked talking harshly about him. Or anyone. I certainly am not as open as him, sure. I suppose that's my own and his own way of doing things, though. Nothing wrong with that. :3 I'm also glad that I don't have to post 100 times a day. Because, quite frankly, those times where I leave for months on end would be impossible (like just recently, in fact. Life happens.) [Edited on 09.13.2012 8:36 PM PDT]
