Has anyone noticed...

...the Covenant have bigger heads in Halo 4. It seriously looks like someone has pumped them up with air or something. If thats what it looks like I wonder what it sounds like? 0.o For some reason the grunt to me looks like a turtle like wretch. I guess its cause of the reptile like scales on the arms and legs. I also Love how instead of a mask its tank is connected to its nose tho I will miss shooting off its mask and seeing that scary looking face.

 •
Posted by: crispychicken49
Posted by: flamedude My only major criticism of Halo 4 is the artwork. I mean..... its just horrid. You think the Jackal is bad? Wait until 343i start showing us better shots of the terrible looking new Pelican. The forums will asplode when that happens.
The Pelican looks almost exactly the same. The only difference is a more bulbous window shape.
You must be joking. The new H4 Pelican is the worst redesign in the entire game. It's lost all of its grace, and its been replaced with utterly nonsensical parts. Why has it got those wee tiny thrusters on the bottom of the fuselage? What sort of a design is that?

 • NONONONONONO FIRST OF ALL its a varient of the jackal called a storm jackal like skirmishers, so there will be normal jackals. Grunts are probably wearing larger head gear and elites look the same.. wtf lol

 • The elites look pretty much the same, but the grunts and jackals look weird. I know 343 was trying to take Halo in a different direction, but I don't think that's the most effective way to go about doing it.

 • Wow Jackals are different. I can understand the other two changing to fit the new "style" of 4, but Jackals are supposed to be bird - like. Not piranha raptor things.
Posted by: Oblivioh
Posted by: ninjakenzen Meh, not a fan of the changes. The characters are less animated, which could be an interesting turn for the Halo series, but then again I look at the gameplay and it's arguably more animated. bit of a contradiction. I would prefer Halo to be a bit more darker and gritty akin to Reach's false advertisement first trailer but maybe in Halo 5, if not 6. So that'll be some time before we get a more mature Halo game.
But then it wouldn't be Halo. Halo has always had the sense that humanity is something worth fighting for, it would be easy to make it more angsty which is sort of what they're doing with Cortana going crazy and Chief getting his character fleshed out, but the overarching vibe needs to be optimistic.
What is Halo? Is Halo 4, Halo? Reach, Halo? Where do you draw a line and decide what is Halo and what isn't. Sure I have my interpretation of what Halo is, but that would be more subjective, if anything. Much like yours. From a critique aspect I would say each Halo had its own different feel, it's own style. Halo 2 would have been more similar to 3. CE being the first in the trilogy [it ultimately is where all basis of comparison lies] The jump from 1 to 2 visually and in content has been the most drastic. Although The Trilogy is where the "true" core Halo lies. ------------------------------------------- You can argue Post-Reach, Hell even Post-ODST. The series took a new direction of Halo. Arguably you could say it had alway been changing. But Post-Bungie Halo is different, and those who expects similarity in a "purer" form of evolution from old trilogy to the new trilogy in terms of consistency carries blind optimism. I place "Halo" in a special period between 01-08 arguably reaching 09. ------------------------------------ From my experiences, CEA was one of the worst adaptions visually of what 343i could have went with in terms of Halo. Note, I mean the art direction not the graphics. They seem to be continuing this thread onto 4. Therefore slowly replacing it with a overlap. From the changes on the cover of the novel further shows this systematic change of the visual of HALO. I don't like it but whatever, what some people don't notice as well is the content is drastically different as well. Sure it's given that Traviss is new and so is Bear, Post-Halo 3. So their interpretation differs. But this isn't really what Halo is in terms of what themes and content it now encompasses. ----------------------------------------------- My interpretation of what Halo actually is lied in the "Bungie Era" with Nylund heading the [Main] Novels. What a lot of people in this forum don't realize is that we already have a new Halo where a different interpretation has already taken place. This is "343i period" where Bear is taking charge with his forerunner saga. Halo 4-6 is a product of something that is now loosely based off the Bungie period. [IMO] and I don't nearly enjoy it as much as the old series. If you haven't noticed, this "343i period" can just about pull off anything in the Halo Universe anytime they deem it fit. "Bungie period" would at least have some standards to adhere too [Remember hearing things like a Halo Bible? etc] Although it was Bungie themselves who ultimately dug their own grave with Reach. Halo Wars was the most drastic change in Halo Canon of the period but that wasn't even too bad of a departure. This thread, like many, is one example of the changes which over-ride any previous aesthetics or even canon. It is what it is. Some may like it, some may hate it. I loathe the changes to a much greater extent than I could ever do in the so called "Bungie Era". Arguably I could be labeled as a "Bungie fanboy" but I assure you, Reach took care of that. Note: This is from a canon/visual perspective that is. Gameplay will have to wait till the full game is out, but I'm sure Halo 4 will be fine gameplay wise, well I hope. Hopefully evolutionary changes to multiplayer will occur rather than revolutionary ones which revamp it completely in a attempt to modernise the series. But whatever. • It almost looks like the covenants evolution has been sped up, how else would the Jackels have gone from feathery bird things to alligator people, or the grunts going from exoskeleton things to scaled skin things?

 •
Posted by: Cmdr DaeFaron
Posted by: Spartan1995324
Posted by: Leaf Dragoon hey I heard the new covenant faction was called covenant storm http://www.examiner.com/article/halo-4-s-storm-covenant-faction-officially-revealed a theory I heard on halopedian is that "Unggoy in service to the storm appear to have been selectively bred, genetically modified, or otherwise represent a different species from the mainstream type. Likewise, the Kig-Yar, (at least the Jackals), are still deployed as skirmishers and light infantry; similar to the Unggoy, they possess a noticeably different morphology from those commonly encountered during the Human-Covenant War."
While that would be all fine and dandy I honestly think it's just an artistic difference. Same deal with Chief's armour. There's no actual canon explanation. The Storm are more or less a band of pirates. If anyone could afford to augment and engineer their troops, it was the Covenant powerhouse. Not some rag tag group of pirates that can't even afford armour for their arms (i.e. Elites).
You can't handwave drastically different body features, like the grunt toes :P. and 343 did have a quote saying it was an explained difference <_<. Also, about the "pirates"... I doubt pirates would have a fleet with brand new looking vehicles... or large numbers of the brand new plasma rifle from the elite armories <_<.
Orgainized crime. Imagine if every gang, mafia, syndicate, etc in America united. They would probably be able to get their hands on old military equipment. And if run right, maybe a few new guns. Honestly I don't know. I just highly doubt the first theory quoted here. [Edited on 08.16.2012 9:18 PM PDT]
